Upgrading speakers for starters

Ok fam here's the thing... I am pretty disappointed with the quality of the factory speaks in the Jeep. I am not an audiophile or anything but i still think the current quality stinks when you are listening to music loud on a warm Chicago afternoon. My first initial upgrade to my speakers are to get Infinity all around. I had Infinity Reference in my Oldsmobile back when and they seemed pretty nice.

After doing the usual reading and all that stuff, I know I wont be getting the full benefit of my purchase by keeping everything stock and just replacing the speakers. So i guess my question is is it worth getting Infinity Reference and or Kappas all around and seeing how it goes? Am i going to blow my factory radio or screw up the speakers if i was to keep everything else stock?

Thanks for the info in advance

I think so. That way, if you are satisfied with just the speaker upgrade, you don't waste any money on extra stuff (amp, wiring, radio).

No, you'll be fine - just be sure the speakers are 4 ohm. Most are, but I think Infinity makes some 2 ohm speakers, so just be sure to get 4 ohm.

I thought the Kicker upgrade could not be used on my Jeep? WKjeeps said it is for models with factory premium system...I'm pretty sure I don't have that.

I was thinking about this initially, these two sets of speakers.

This... http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13965_Infinity+Kappa+693.9I.html or this... http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_18906_Infinity+Reference+9633cf.html

And this... http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13454_Infinity+Kappa+652.9i.html

I am open to the kicker system, if so then id need this http://www.justforjeeps.com/kire62sp.html and http://www.justforjeeps.com/kifr6x9sp3tw.html and http://www.justforjeeps.com/kiamup8.html correct? I am still partial to the Infinity speaks of course.

I kinda am looking for some speakers that will give an excellent bass response due to the fact i still want to haul things and subs in the trunk isn't really an option. Does the kicker system give good bass response and what not?

I guess I forgot about the dash ones...but it seems the kicker ones have them included which seems nice.

I have been doing a bit of research but I have not been in a huge rush to jump out and get new speakers yet. However I am more inclined to get the kicker upgrade just because it seems like it would be simple to do and probably sound better than my existing stock ones.

From what i have read it seems that you must have the premium sound system in order to get these kicker speakers as an upgrade. I am pretty sure i do not have the premium system. If i decided to go with the kicker setup how would i go about it? Do i really need to have the premium audio system to do this upgrade? I just want some better audio quality then that of the stock setup.

Everyone seems to be VERY pleased with the Kicker upgrade. And the fact that it's all drop-in replacements is nice! (i.e. no cutting wires!!)

I'm not sure on this.

I just got the Memphis Power Refrence speakers installed in my jeep, the previous owner blew the front two and the guy swung me a good deal when doing my tints. I paid 265 out the door for everything and couldnt be happier. The speakers have good bass and a lifetime warranty (main reason i got em)

I have the factory BA sound system. I up graded the Dash speakers to the 3.5" Infinity Kappa speakers and immediately noticed a difference.

I am looking to get the Kicker Upgrade eventually but for now just doing the dash speakers with the BA in the doors made a huge difference.

Well i think sometime this week i might just go ahead and order the front dash, mid-bass, and rear kickers if i get a chance for the hell of it. I am just wondering why this kit says that you need the premium sound system to get the kicker upgrade. I don't think there is an answer to that...

I definitely dont have the premium system in my jeep so we will see what happens when everything gets installed. If i screw up anyhting or blow anyhting, I have a max care warranty for another 30k miles.

are u gonna have to but these speakers all seperately or is it a package thing?

They are two separate kits from my understanding. Im still doing some research on it and other options. Not jumpin on it yet cause i am alright with what in there til i decide what i really want if i do so decide. I was trying to get some insight on this as a feeler thread.

I put the kicker upgrade in the dash and front doors and I just have the RAQ with no amp. Huge difference from the factory speakers. Woth the money. I'll probably get the 6.5 for the rear doors eventually, but for right now I have Sony xplods from another radio.

Thanks for the great responses from our new members of the forum!

This is what i was looking for. Someone that has upgraded to the kicker setup with a base sound system.

So overall you would say it is worth the upgrade? Better quality, bass and the works? If so then i am going to purchase the kit. Was this the two sets you installed? http://www.justforjeeps.com/kifr6x9sp3tw.html and http://www.justforjeeps.com/kire62sp.html ?

I have infiniti references on the doors...i didnt bother to do the tweeters...and i love it...its a huge difference, even with the stock headunit only pushing out a total of 66watts....its awesome, the bass is great, and i wouldnt do it different!

I'm a new member and this is my first post so let me say hello to everyone. I have an 09 WK with the base system and have been trying to figure out which speakers to get. I noticed they do sell these for the base system
http://www.justforjeeps.com/kifr6x9sp7.html
Maybe they are more efficient speakers if you don't have an amp? But it doesn't look like they have dash speakers for the base system upgrade, so I'm not sure what to do. Any recommendations on what speakers to get without an amp?

yeah i will NEVER buy stereo equipment from the store unless its on sale. Online shopping is def. best for stereos.

Most 6X9 probably wont fit, they are typically made with large magnets and baskets for high power.

The Kicker upgrade fit, but require a 1/4" spacer which comes with the speakers.

Anyway...are people really happy with these? I just installed my front kit. The kickers do not have the same lows. The 2 way fronts are not very vibrant. Considering the 30 minutes and $150 I spent, I should have just left the factory speakers alone.

I always thought that the high volume distortion was caused because of the speakers. In reality its the Head unit.
Maybe its because I have the basic CD player with no MP3. Hopefully soon I will get an aftermarket head unit and maybe then I will get a better sound.
