Re: wanting to get a subwoofer, tips?advice?

Also, when you order from some of those bargain websites, you run the risk of getting ripped off. There are some very good knockoffs out there. Companies like JL Audio, Kicker, Alpine, etc. only validate warranties on products bought at authorized retailers. So if you save some money on knockoff equipment now, when it blows, you're out of luck.

Though you may have this covered, a solid sub enclosure and mount/location can be as critical as the sub and power to it. Especially with the stock head units, It's also useful to have a separate sub controller to adjust for varied music and bass line.

They also have economy lines that outperform anything in their price range.

To answer your question, you need to decide what you want and get it.
Seriously get a clue before you start discussing something you know obviously little about ok. There are many many many other companies in the Car Audio world that run circles around JL stuff at a fraction of the cost. Just look at companies like SSA, FI, Sundown, Incriminator, DC, Ascendant, Memphis, Digital Designs, Audioque, and Soundsplinter just to name a few. If you spent a little time in the business of even on a serious car audio forum you would realize that although JL is better than most big box subs{kicker, Fosgate, Alpine, Sony, etc etc} it is one, way over priced and two not in the class as the above mentioned woofers.

Are you serious I can get the owner of at least 5 of the companies I mentioned before on the phone or by email in less than 1 hour. I am done with this because you are extremely ignorant and if you want to use overpriced garbage go right ahead. But check any reptutable Car audio forum and see how JL stacks up you will get laughed at.

Re: wanting to get a subwoofer, tips?advice?

Yeah, b/c when I go to car shows & competitions, everyone knows all about Soundsplinter....
I've sold and installed JL, Memphis, Eclipse, Alpine, & Kicker. Memphis is great for the price, but they'll never compete with JL. Not even with ol' LVS running 4000 watts.

Anyway, I'm really not sure how far out of the way you have to go to even try to plug those brands, but facts are facts and JL Audio is number one, end of story.

I know this is the internet, but I would fight you over this. I've been in & around car audio since before I had one.

Re: wanting to get a subwoofer, tips?advice?

Please get the president of JL on the phone and tell him you want your warranty validated after buying from superamazingcarstereo.com or icantbelieveitsnotretail.com or whatever else. sonicelectronix is great for all accessories and they do have good prices, but take that busted equipment to an AUTHORIZED retail store and you'll be walking out with it too.

I can't believe I didn't see it quicker, Jeepster...Hipster...
You're just mad because these brands are mainstream & are heavily reviewed by professionals & win lots of awards, but other people know about them so they suck.

For anyone else that wants to read reviews online instead of actually seeing, hearing, or touching the products go ahead & google all of Jeepster's brands (that's the only way to find them) and order blindly based on reviews...
For everyone else, go down to your local store and actually test the products (because they are there, not on the internet)

And before you start name calling like a crybaby pisspants, how about you try to have an actual point instead of plugging equipment you've probably never heard in person? And if you deal with all this equipment in person, then say that instead of just bashing well known, highly respected brands. Have fun on your stereo forums...

You make a great point. After all every man's Jeep is HIS Jeep and what they choose to outfit their Jeep with is their choice. Good luck with the bass! You'll enjoy the 12.

Re: wanting to get a subwoofer, tips?advice?

Didn't mean to hijack the thread. Just can't stand haters.

Anyway, if you're looking to blast dubstep, I'd consider a couple good 10s or a really good 12". You want something with tight, responsive bass to keep up with the beat. Remember that the amp is more important than the subs in the end. You can make crap subs sound better with a good amp AND! you can make good subs sound bad with a crap amp.
