Re: What sub $150 or less?

When you say you want SQ, do you want a transparent woofer that blends well with the front stage or are you looking for thump but clean and crisp?

what kind of music do you listen to primarily?

JL makes a quality product, but a lot of the sound/vibration you are looking for will have more to do with your install ( sealed, ported, IB, leaky sealed enclosure...) your setting the gains properly, and your tuning of the sub stage. Oh almost forgot your dampening!

Re: What sub $150 or less?

Ive found a rockford 1001 amp for a very good price (500x4 ohms 1000x2 ohms) Will overpowering any of the above subs be a big problem, or could i be careful with the gains and get by with it?

If there is any room behind the plastic interior trim and the body panels, I have no problem cutting the interior plastic to get some depth for the sub box. I want something that wont take up much space and that I wont have to remove to use the cargo area.

Thanks in advance for any help

I was in the same boat as you, I havent had a system in over 10 years then I got my WK and wanted one. I went on ebay and did research on what certain amps and subs typically go for then low bid on what I wanted, ended up with a brand new JL 10W6v2 for $114 and a new JL 500/1 amp for $165. Ebay you can find awesome deals if you wait and look hard enough.

Me, I would advise against any cutting of the interior plastic simply for when you go to sell the vehicle how are you going to fix it? When I get rid of this car I will be changing it back to completely stock, then sell all my mods off seperately.

Re: What sub $150 or less?

I just finished searching ebay. I may go with a diamond d6, and a rockford 1001 amp (if its still forsale and not to much amp for the sub). Ill definatly look into not cutting the plastic, but if i have to leave the sub in there if I sell it that doesnt bother me to bad.

Re: What sub $150 or less?

That amp should be fine with that sub. My JL 10W6 says 600 watts rms and I bet i can hook up the JL 1000/1 amp to it and it would really pound with no issues if set properly. The amps power ratings are usually showing its max output, but can be set lower. If the sub is a dual voice coil you can always wire it to 8ohms if the amp has too much power.

Re: What sub $150 or less?

having headroom is never a bad thing, set your gains correctly and tune your crossovers and you'll be fine.

For an extra $100, http://stereointegrity.com/bm.php is a nice 12" that could be glassed into the side of the cargo area. I really want to try that, but I should probably install the gear I have already
