What will I need? Clarion NX500

I would like to install a Clarion NX500 in my 2008 WK. Preferably I would install the MYGIG RER however the price is just too high for me. I was wondering what all I would need in order to make this unit work for me.

Wiring harness?
Dash kit?
antenna adapter?
VSS wire?

Thank you in advance for any help/suggestions.

Wiring Harness
Navigation Bezel: 80-110$ from jeep dealer
Dash Kit
Antenna adapter

If you have the basic jeep system without boston acoustic amp the wiring will be a breeze.

Re: What will I need? Clarion NX500

Thanks for the help. Two more quick questions.

1) My door pannels where the speaker holes are say boston on them, but does that mean I have the amp? If not how do I find out.

2)What all is required when insalling a RER (do you still need the navigation bezel?). I was thinking about it and if I can find one for 1000 It would probably be cheaper in the long run.

Yes sounds like you have the BA system, you can double check the amp is mounted on the inside drivers quarter panel behind the interior trim.

Yes you would still need the bigger nav bezel to switch to any double-din unit. In my opinion only; if you have 1000 to spend you can get an aftermarket in dash nav that will outperform the RER, and if you decide to sell the jeep, put the original crap back in and you have a nice unit for your next vehicle.

You'll be happier with the Clarion. Much better quality.

Not really because ACC power will still be lost.

Re: What will I need? Clarion NX500

Well made my decision. I bought a MYGIG for 500 on this site. Couldn't pass up the ease of install and the OEM look. Depending on the quality an upgrade is still in mind.

Sounds like you already made your decision but Ill is right. If you have the BA system, the wiring isn't as straightforward as you may thing. You would need a Chrysler OEM interface (from PAC Audio or similar) to give you all the functions you need. The PAC interface is nice, and it gives you all the wires you need (reverse, ACC power, dash lights, etc), but I seem to remember that being $100 or so. You also have to remember to wire the front speaker wires from the deck to the rear speaker wires of the amp or any bluetooth and nav sounds won't come through the speakers. With an aftermarket head unit, you lose the fading function of the deck.

You'd also need a steering wheel control interface, so add $50 there, too.

Sirius radio is built-in to the RER, you need a tuner for the Clarion (although the tuner is only like $30).

However, if you want to have hacked control of the RER, then you would need a lockpick, which is like $200. On the Clarion, all you have to do is ground the parking brake wire (free).

In general, when I did the research for myself, they come out to be just about a wash money-wise (unless you find a smoking deal like it sounds like you did). The aftermarket deck generally has better features, but there are also some little things you have to live with (like no fader control).

Sorry, If you buy the correct harness, the install will be a breeze with a non-BA system.

Right, but look at the price on that thing. I believe that when most people say "wiring harness", they think of the little $15 pigtail that adapts it to the stock connector. Not an $80 OEM interface. The interface does make it a breeze to install, but it comes at a cost. That was my only point.

BTW, you need one of those interface boxes regardless of if you are BA or non-BA. The only difference is how you wire it in. And for reference, the OP said he DID have a BA system.
