01 gc 4.7 performance upgrades

i bought a 01 4wd limited 4.7,it already had a k&n cai and for some reason the previous owner did a muffler delete(theres no emmisions here).i think due to no muffler it took away from the low end.what performance upgrades can i do to improve it through out the power band?was thinking about doing a cat delete since theres no emmisions here but i read some where about customizing the ypipe.not sure if it was 3" pipe at the manifolds then go down to 2 1/4 at the muffler or vise versa.there no engine light on but im guessing if i modify the ypipe and cats it will trigger the light.was also wondering if the sct tunner was worth the money to get.
any help would be great

Re: 01 gc 4.7 performance upgrades

The proven mods to the 4.7 are as follows:
- 3" exhaust (Summit offers one but be careful if you are afraid of drone)
- SuperChips 3872 tuner (for Jeep )
- ported throttle body (there are several options)
- HO cams (hard to find and a bit challenging to swap due to the OHC design)

Your WJ has 2 pre-cats and one main cat. It is common to replace the main cat with a hi-flow aftermarket piece. Mufflers are up for debate but I personally like a large body Magnaflow 12589 (3"in center/3"out offset)

3" at manifold is way to big and would kill low end response. Space is tight underneath the WJ.
