Hoffmanestates,

I just came across your thread and thought I might reply as I had *thought* I had the very same thing happen about a year ago. (You can also check some other threads I may have started as well)

Anyways, I *thought* my diff took a crap when taking a right hand turn in some slightly wet weather, BOOM...I heard a HUGE noise from the front end, Jeep quadra trac 2 still drove fine. However, 4WD was completely gone.

So, I pulled the front end diff cover and everything was 100% intact, about 6 months earlier I had replaced the drivers side CV joint / axle.

Turns out, Oreilly's AND Advanced auto had the wrong part # in their system and gave me the shorter CV joint / axle.

The huge BOOM was the axle popping out...I must have driven it 5-7k miles with it like this.

I'd say before you drop all sorts of cash, I'd pull the diff cover and just give it a look first.

Anyways good luck. If you have any questions please let me know.
When I was replacing initially rock auto sent me a short one. Went to O'Reilly and ordered axles. Proper length.

Now my popping is at any speed any turning radius. Even going straight or in reverse

Thanks for the reply.

How many miles did you get out of the original axles?
