Hi Patrick, not that familiar with the crd, but lets see until where we can go.
The 2.7 crd is a 5 cylinder when iīm not wrong. Is the engine turning over good when trying to start, or is it really slow? I remember the diesel car i drove before i had to change the glow plugs for this same reason, they donīt glow sufficient anymore after time and this will first show up on cold days.
Regarding the transmission shift, there are several reed type switches in the shifter assy, one for each position, which will send the shifter lever position to the TCM. I would check the integrity of the assy and see if nothing is loose. A too big distance between the switch and its target will give problems.
To see the PCM fault codes you need to do the key dance: ignition switch off/on three times and leave it in on at the third time. The odometer will show the fault code(s) one by one, or DONE when all ok.
