2000 GC power steering?

Hi, When I buy the power steering pump and pump puller from the dealer. (Cost less at the dealers then the parts store) Should I have someone press it on before I put it on? Then when I go to replace the old one it's already on. Or do you have to put the pulley on after you put the pump on? Never done one on a jeep. I would think I should have it pressed on before install BUT you never know. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

Best is to install the pulley first, since you have all the space available to do so. There is a special tool to install the pulley, but i think that you could easily use a bolt with the proper size, a nut and a thick ring to put the pulley on. Be aware that the pulley is marked " front" for proper installation.

Re: 2000 GC power steering?

I went and picked up the pump and pulley about hour ago from the dealer. I asked for the heck of it how much would you charge me to press the pulley on the pump? He came back and told me $45.00. I almost fell over backwards! I said "Ahhh I don't think so. So no thanks." I can't believe after buying the parts from them they wanted to charge that much. I thought they would of gave me a deal and said 20 or so. I would of paid up to 20 bucks. Should of known.. It's a local dealer hear.... Hope not they are all like that.

Re: 2000 GC power steering?

Just called a garage and they will do it for 20 bucks. I'm taking it there tomorrow.

Re: 2000 GC power steering?

I put it on tonight with the bolt it came with. I didn't know how to do it until I watched someone on youtube. And then thought to myself dang that will be easy. LOL The bolt it comes with is grade 5 and I stripped the threads when it was almost flush. I'm going to buy a grade 8 bolt. And I used head bolt lubricant to put on the shaft and the washer and nut. Best stuff to use in my opinion. Guess I'll save myself 20 bucks.. I'll be changing it out Friday night.
