2004 grand cherokee oil pan gasket

Just bought an 2015 Renegade for the wife so she could upgrade from the old 04 grand cherokee. The 04 goes to me now and after the second day of driving it I noticed it had a burning smell. Found the oil pan gasket leaking where the exhaust pipe goes down beside the oil pan. Decided to go ahead and replace the rear main seal and the oil pump while I got it apart.

Got the oil pan off pretty easily, and I must say it was the cleanest oil pan on the inside I have ever saw. I always change the oil every 3000 miles and I just use regular 10w 30 oil but there was no sludge no where.

After I got the pan off it was late so I was going to continue the next day and came down with a sinus infection or something but I been on the couch for three days now. Finally getting better but still very snotty, yukk.

Hopefully gonna get out there tomorrow and get the rear main replaced and the oil pump swapped out and put it all back together and get this project over with.

Got a heater core to replace in my 2000 grand cherokee that is next on the list. Always something to do I guess.......

Re: 2004 grand cherokee oil pan gasket

Got out there this morning and knocked the oil pump screen into pump and got the pump primed up with some STP oil treatment. Cleaned the pan good which it wasn't bad just had to clean the sealing surface good and replaced the rear main seal. That went alot better than I expected, got the main cap back on and the main brace torqued and put the new oil pump on. Got the pan back on and the starter back on, filled it up with oil and started it up. Oil pressure went up quickly thank goodness and so far I have only had a few drips but that may be just oil that was in the bellhousing from before. I wonder when the 4.0's went to an aluminum oil pump, I have rebuilt several but have never noticed the oil pump to be aluminum like this one. Anyway the job went pretty good and hopefully it will be good to go for awhile.
