4.7l HO cylinder head sellers

Hi All, newbie here, my 1st jeep and I'm already waist deep "in the muck". My 2004 WJ Overland decided it should inject coolant into #1! Left head is off and I'm ready to buy but from where? Exhaustive forum searches haven't identified the go-to vendor. In fact many seem deceptive in their marketing and trail too many dissatisfied customers. While I enjoy the HO I'm not looking for a bullet proof hi-tech build, just want to purchase from a vendor with some integrity and at a good value for my daily driver which honestly I can't wait to get back to driving. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!....Oh, and glad to be here even under duress!

Re: 4.7l HO cylinder head sellers

Welcome to the garage. Is the head cracked or any corrosion issues to the sealing surface?

Re: 4.7l HO cylinder head sellers

Hi, thanks for speedy reply.
Short answer is im not sure hence my effort to buy another. Its near flat but there is some imperfection in head deck between coolant passage and combustion chamber. It is not visible in the chamber itself. Gasket was intact with black coating flaking off in vicinity of breach (I have photos but not sure how to include in post). Im not a mechanic so not a lot of experience with head inspection. I AM very mechanically inclined and not afraid to tackle any job so here I am. Truck has 109000mi. But I know little of its past history. Great shape otherwise so worth the effort IMO.

Re: 4.7l HO cylinder head sellers

Why not taking it to a good engine shop and let them check it and see if it can be saved? Doesn´t look too bad to me.

Re: 4.7l HO cylinder head sellers

Here in New England there does not seem to be many shops that rebuild or repair cylinder heads (as compared to say Southern California). Perhaps the tough climate limits the number of older vehicles worthy of the investment in major engine repair. The shops I have found tend to specialize in antique and racing vehicles and are leary of aluminum heads. So I am assuming the best solution is to purchase a remanufactured one and get this jeep going again! Thanks for your interest in my dilemma!
