I have the 2004 grand Cherokee with the all time 4x4. I have no shifter to go between 4 high and 4 low. Apparently this is the only year this truck was made with this type of setup. Can I change out the transfer case and install in the shifter from my 2001. I know the jeeps are completely compatible! Thank you in advance for any help.
Welcome to the garage.
You have the NV147 T-case in your jeep. You can replace it with the NV242, which has the 4Lo option. Not sure if you can still use your own propeller shafts, or need different sizes.
You will need the shifter assy as well.
Also, the input shaft size is different between the 4.0 242 and the 4.7 242HD. If you have a 4.0 then then you need the 242 to bolt in and with the 4.7 you need the 242HD to bolt in. I know there is also a difference in the drive/propeller shafts but cannot speak to what the difference is.
I haven't seen that set up, didn't know they did that. I always thought if you had the awd system, you had the shifter with 4alltime, neutral, and 4 low. I was under the impression no 4wd shifter equaled 2wd and no 4x4. We have an 02 limited with quadradrive and have the shifter for the three options. Learn something new everyday!

You can go to the NV-247 the same case you have except this case has a 4LO option and a Neutral option. Personally Im not a fan of the 242 transfer case. A 231 transfer case Is also an option.
