Another Potential WJ Purchaser

hi all. brand new to the forum. i hate to register just to ask questions, but I really have no other place to go at this moment. i have very little knowledge about jeeps in general and thusly come to you fine people.

i am currently shopping for a new (to me) vehicle and a few options have presented themselves.

1. 2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited 60th Edition - super low miles. i don't have a solid price on it yet, but the salesperson told me around 7k. it's got some hail dings and normal scratches for a 15 year old vehicle that has been used. 83k miles and it's got the 4.7 v8. not sure what else to tell about it. the leather seats in the rear look like they've never been used, as does the hitch receiver too. i don't know much about the reliability of the powertrain. after the test drive, my initial apprehension to a 15 year old car as my daily driver is starting to wane.

2. 2010/2011 3.7L Jeep Liberties in general. my father owned one of these things from '03 or '04 and had to replace the transmission 3 times before moving to an '05 or '06 Grand Cherokee (that he also ended up having to replace the transmission on).

in short, I'm trying to figure out if there is anything with either vehicle that i should be concerned about. this will be my daily driver and would be so for the foreseeable future. I posted this in the WJ forum because that's the way I'm leaning right now. if I can get the WJ for about 6k and then throw a warranty on it (I've been driving newer cars too long now to make the move back to another vehicle without a safety net), then I'm pretty sure that's the direction i'll go.

My Overland has been nothing but good and reliable, and with the 4.7 it holds it's own really well. You won't regret a clean WJ

My '01 WJ was awesome, never had major issues with it and I traveled a lot with it

I still enjoy my 04 WJ. If you like them I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Re: Another Potential WJ Purchaser

Still very happy with mine - Purchased with 78K miles on it and currently showing 142k. With a good set of AT tires I can get anywhere I need to be. Also very happy to have found one with the 4.7HO in it.

Re: Another Potential WJ Purchaser

...late to the party, but I'm another one that loved my WJ and had no major issues with it at all while I owned it. Reliable, plenty of power, and very comfortable ride.

Re: Another Potential WJ Purchaser

I'm thinking of buying a 2004 WJ. I drive about 25k miles a year would you have any apprehension putting this kind of mileage on a used WJ?

Re: Another Potential WJ Purchaser

For the past 5 years the WJ has been my primary driver and I am on the road all the time. I would not be afraid of it if the regular stuff was addressed.

Awesome thanks. What do you consider "regular stuff"? Just maintenance?
