Question Coolant leaking!!!

Hello. I have a 2000 grand cherokee and the other day I noticed coolant dripping from what seemed to be coming from the radiator but wasn't 100% sure. Now today while I was driving the coolant low light thing came on so I pulled over and topped it up then proceeded to where I was going, when I turned the ignition off and got out I realised there was coolant pouring out close to the drivers wheel then after a while it stopped, I went home and it did it again once the ignition was turned off. The radiator is usually always full but the bottle that you top up is usually empty or close to it in about 2-3 days after being filled up, been doing this for about 2weeks i think.wanting to know what this could be? My husband is a interstate truck driver and won't be home for a few days. Also we had a new radiator and water pump put in about 15months ago. Sorry I don't know much about cars and how they work ect. I'm just wanting opinions on what it would be so I can go get it fixed hopefully without getting ripped off. Thank you

Re: Coolant leaking!!!

It could be a few things....
1. The radiator failed again
2. The cap never got replaced with a new one (you should replace the pressure cap every so often, they wear)
3. (and most likely) - a hose clamp needs to be tightened up. As the Jeep gets hot and cold and hot and cold, things expand and contract and can get loose. Whatever you do, make sure you keep it topped up with the correct 50-50 mix until you get it fixed. If you drive without coolant you could be looking at replacing the engine. Napa sells the correct coolant. It's not cheap either, so the quicker you get it taken care of, the better off you'll be.

Re: Coolant leaking!!!

A leaking radiator or radiator cap normally appears at the front of the jeep. When it appears at the drivers side wheel, i would expect a hose or waterpump. The original hose clamps have a pre set clamping force and are normally very reliable. I would take the jeep in to have it checked out. It can be that something more serious is going on, which could get you stranded somewhere or even ruin your engine due to overheating.
