Re: Dexron III

I buy nearly all fluids from the dealer here. I bought TC fluid but didn't get any modifier with it, so I'd presume not.

Re: Dexron III

another quick question, I read most places to leave it in park to get the level for teh transmission but some others say neutral - I get different reading????? seems higher in neutral. Anyone got the definitive answer for this one as I don't want to overfill
Cheers
Paul.

Re: Dexron III

Originally the level was checked in Neutral, as also is mentioned on the stick itself.
For whatever reason (maybe for safety, since you have to check it with the engine running), that was changed lateron and you should now check it in Park.

Re: Dexron III

Cheers for that Frank, I think I was reading a thread of yours where this was an issue.
As a transmission expert and Guru for the 545RFE, should there be clunking when shifting between P R N D when stationary? It runs absolutely fine in all other ways, it just seems pretty clunky on selection - I can't seem to find an answer on forums.
Many Thanks,
Paul.

Re: Dexron III

Is the idle speed around 650 rpm? The higher the idle speed, the more you feel it when selecting a gear. I don't recall in fact that my tranny was making a clunk when selecting a gear (already 3 months without it now), you could only hear a kind of ratcheting noise for a few seconds. If it really clunks, it could be that there is play in the rear propeller shaft U-joints or maybe even in the rear diff.
Also i was hearing something when going from Park to Rev, Rev to Drive and Drive to Rev. Going to any other position didn't cause any noise..

Re: Dexron III

Great, I have that ratcheting sound for a few seconds with D & R so I'm not alone.
I'll have to get someone to change gear while I have a look underneath. I did have to put a fair bit of ATF in it last night and I'll be checking today.
Mine sounds similar to how you describe yours but mine feels more mchanical during selection so I'll have a look at that mechanism too.
Cheers
Paul.
