Driveshaft Transfercase Issue

Whats going on guys. I have a problem, recently i had to change my transmission solenoids and now i am out of limp mode. But now i recently took my jeep too a wet soggy grassland to test my Transfer case. When i put it in 4Lo it makes a weird banging sound like something is knocking something else and its coming from under the jeep. One of my friends told me that my Drive shaft is pushing too far into the differential, but i wanted to hear what you guys think first!

Re: Driveshaft Transfercase Issue

First off the drive shaft does not move on the differential side (it bolts to the fixed yoke on the rear diff), the (slip yoke) is on the transmission end so i don't know what your friend means. How does it sound in 4HI? Also does it just make the sound while its engaging or the entire time? Can you feel it grinding in the shift lever while engaging?

i had a feeling he was completely off lol. When its in 4Hi it sounds perfectly normal and when i shift it into 4Lo (doing it the proper way) thats when the banging starts. its not grinding in the shift lever

Re: Driveshaft Transfercase Issue

Your probably going to either need a new tcase or tear it open for repairs. You might have a bad gear or something.

But my quadra drive in 4hi works perfectly. I got my jeep on rollers and it tries to get traction. All 4 wheels were spinning.

Re: Driveshaft Transfercase Issue

If the propeller shaft couplings (CV joints or U-joints) have no play, then there is a good change that the chain in the T-case is stretched too much, causing it to skip teeth and making the noise.

Would that be a costly fix? I'm going to video the jeep so you guys can hear the noise and judge for yourself

Re: Driveshaft Transfercase Issue

Never did it myself, but you can split the T-case and change the chain. Or get a junk yard T-case, but then you also donīt know the state of it. But first need to know if that really is the problem. Did you feel on the propeller shaft if there is no radial play on the joints?
