Engine starts then stops
Hi

Can someone point me in the right direction to determine my current issue with my WJ jeep GC 2.7CRD Overland?

it has been running fine for months then last week whilst driving home it just cut out and we lost all power, it will crank over/start/run for a few seconds then stops.

Engine management light is on I have plugged in a reader and no faults are logged. I have tried several tricks (unplugging battery/removing fuses) but it will only crank over and run for a few seconds, I have removed the mass airflow sensor and injected ignition start up spray and it will fire up and run for about 10 seconds and then dies.

I cant hear any noise from the fuel pump in the tank?
I have been told it could be crank sensor not telling fuel pump to run ?

:( Please Help!

Regards Chesh

I wish I could help more but the diesel WJ was never offered here in the States. That being said, I wonder if there is a problem with the security system. Maybe Fango will chime in with some thoughts from South America.

Yes, i did already. There is an other (equal) thread at the new members welcome section. Waiting on a word from Chesh if he reset the faults he had.

Hi
I'm having trouble re setting code's we have had an auto electrician out and he has plugged in two laptops and both say there are no codes available but we can read at least 6 or more when you do the key trick on ignition.

have you experienced this communication issue before?

we still can't start the vehicle
We have checked cam/crank sensor (works Fine)
new fuel filter (bleed)
even tried sucking fuel up from a jerry can in case fuel line in tank is leaking air.

HELP...

One of the fault codes you had mentioned before had to do with a fault in the PCI data bus. Now on the diesel version i don´t know, but on the gas version, the PCM (powertrain control module) is more or less the heart of the PCI data bus. If the data bus is shorted for example, the engine will not run. The PCM communicates with the SKIS (sentry key immobilizer system) via the PCI data bus, and waits for a key valid signal. Without this signal, the engine starts, but shuts off after a few seconds. With a shorted PCI data bus, the key signal is not received and the engine starts and stops. You will see the SKIS light (key symbol) on the instrument panel lit. Does your jeep have the SKIS and transponder keys? With the PCI bus shorted, a scanner normally will show a "no communication" message or alike, but then normally the key dance will also show no faults.
You could measure the voltage on the PCI bus by checking pin two of the data connector under the steering wheel area. A good bus shows around 2-2.5V. 0V means a shorted bus (but then the instruments, EVIC and power windows normally don´t work as well) and when around 7-7.5 V, one of the connected components to the bus is faulty.
