Fuel Pump?

Hey guys, I am about to sell my 99 Grand Cherokee 4.7 and the fuel pump float is stuck so it reads empty at all times even tho the tank is full. Now the fuel pump works perfect so my question in do they make a rebuild kit for the pump to just replace the float? Id hate to spend $300 on a new pump just to sell it.

Re: Fuel Pump?

I know that you can buy the fuel pump cartidge separately, but never heard this regarding the float assy.
The float assy can be removed from the pump assy, so in theory you should be able to change it. Canīt you get a used assy from the scrapyard somewhere

Re: Fuel Pump?

Can't find one around here, I'm hoping maybe I can pull the float off and clean it and hopefully it will work. Is that possible?

Re: Fuel Pump?

You can remove the float and resistor assy from the fuel pump assy. However i think that the resistor has a broken wire or so. Rockauto.com has a complete new unit for under USD 100 (99, 79 to be exact)
Attached a picture of the pump unit from my jeep. You can clearly see the float and resistor assy.

Re: Fuel Pump?

I had the same problem when I had my 97 Cherokee Sport. I replaced the fuel pump and all was well afterwards.
