Re: ***genius jeepers needed***

Possibly the crankshaft position sensor? I think that was a known problem with the 4.0L engine. Not sure if that applies to your 99 WJ or not but I'd definitely have them look into it.

A couple of the Engine TSB's touch on this, maybe some Performance ones too.

Re: ***genius jeepers needed***

The fuel pressure is checked?
Strange that there is a check engine light, but no fault code set. Any change when you do a battery disconnect? How about the fuel level and voltage indication on the instrument panel? If the crank sensor shorts out, it will bring the fuel level and voltage indication to 0. Crank sensor failures are quite common, but they normally set a fault code.
Rough idle can be caused by misfires. Is the compression checked? There is a TSB regarding carbon buildup on the valve stems, which causes them to stick and cause misfires. A seafoam treatment could help in that case.
Also a dirty IAC stepper motor can give idle problems, but then it should run normal above the 1500 rpm.

Think I saw a TSB on a false MIL.

Re: ***genius jeepers needed***

Where are you when you say you are out of town?

If you are in Los Angeles area by any chance, just leave and fill up in Baker or further east.

Had a perfectly running 95 4.0 just begin to act up like crazy after filling up at a high end station in LA. Tried filling up at a different station with full premium.
Damn thing acted like a badly plugged cat, flaky CPS, plugged fuel filter, all combined.

One fill up in Baker and back to hmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: ***genius jeepers needed***

OK..i got the PCM..not sure what kind of quality is yet. The alarm is an omega excalibur and it appears the WJ came with Sentry Key..the 'no recognize key' alert dashbulb stays on and the Jeep won't fire aside from with starter fluid for about a second..looks like the anti-theft is kicking in and I need options..can the locksmith just recode the key w/ the aftermarket alarm to match the new PCM w/ VIN programmed? the PCM guys are willing to send me a new PCM to see if that works..can they program it w/ the vin and aftermarket alarm info? I am confused for sure but I'm running out of time and $$$...still 200 miles from home..HELP?

Re: ***genius jeepers needed***

Donīt know this aftermarket alarm, but isnīt it only an aural sound when a door is opened with the alarm set? That you have the sentry key light on, is most probably that the PCM is not programmed with the SKIM code. But then still the engine should start and run for 3 seconds and then shut down. I thought that the shops where you buy the PCM from, could program it with the neccesary codes, so that it would work properly.
