Good News and Bad News....

I will start with the bad news first. The bad news is that a couple of weeks ago, my wife was sitting our Jeep in a parking lot, reading her book, waiting for the kids she nannies for to get out of school. An older lady pulls into the spot in front of her, and mistakes the gas pedal for the brake pedal. She was driving some mid-2000s Honda sedan of some sort and according to my wife, the entire hood was mashed up.

Not a lot of visual damage to the Jeep, but there was liquid dripping from the bumper. I did not want her to drive to an auto body shop if she was leaking coolant. I snapped a photo when I met her at the auto body shop of the damage.

Visually all that you could see is that one of chrome tow hooks was bent in pretty bad and that bumper was bent in a bit. My wife got a rental car, a Ford Focus, she really like the 35-40 mpgs of the Focus, but did not like the fact that she was so small and that she had no guts going up hills.

Fast forward a few weeks, to the good news, and 2600 bucks later (not out of my pocket), got my lovely Jeep back. The whole front bumper facia was replaced so now the color is a bit odd. It is the right color as the rest of the Jeep, but I am sure that since the paint is new and the rest is about 10 years old that is where the color difference comes from. The fluid leaking out was actually just the windshield washer fluid from the reservoir. The replacement chrome tow hook is also slightly farther forward then the other one. Small little details like that. I am just thankful that it wasn't any worse.

Just thought I would share with everyone here what had happened and that everyone is ok, including the Jeep. Still have a few quirks left to work out with the auto body shop, but other than that everything is back to normal.

Glad everyone is okay. Unfortunately, those little details that aren't quite right is all too common after an accident. It sucks that someone else's mistake can permanently affect your vehicle. You didn't make out too bad though, good luck with everything.

Re: Good News and Bad News....

Glad to hear everyone's ok and it was only the windshield washer reservoir that was leaking and not something else.

Re: Good News and Bad News....

This seems to be the only thread that mentions the window washer reservoir. Mine has a hairline crack in the seam at the top of the reservoir. It leaks if filled over half way. I have a replacement. I initially took the inner fender well liner out to replace it but don't see how to do that without removing the stabilizer bar. Is there any other suggested way of replacing the reservoir?
