hard brake pedal

Hi all. Recently bought a 2000 jeep grand cherokee wj 3.1td. After a problem with a stuck caliper slide pin the brakes were dragging and got very hot on my way to work and back (20 miles) i managed to sort the pin and there is no drag on the brakes but now my brake pedal is hard when i start the car (as if braking with the engine off) and barely stops but is fine after a few minutes. Could this be anything to do with the brake fluid getting too hot after cooking the brakes? I have checked the vacuum at the booster and thats fine. Any help would great. Thanks

Re: hard brake pedal

Welcome to the garage.
I would just drain some fluid at each caliper and see how it looks like, but since the brake works ok after some time, i wonder if the problem is not with the pistons and or seals. Looks like that the pistons are stuck and only the rear brakes work in the beginning. After sitting for a while (long enough for the problem to be there), let a helper push the brake pedal and look if you can see the front brakes being applied.
