Thumbs up Hello everyone! First Jeep here! Let's talk about it :)

Hello there. My name is Joseph, I am 30 years old, and in a week I will be buying my very first Jeep: a 1999 Grand Cherokee Laredo, optioned up to include leather seats and probably a bunch of other things (the option package that includes the Infiniti audio system and 6-disc CD changer comes to mind, we will see) and it is a "WJ" and from what I know it has about 155k miles on it. My father had a 2000 Laredo optioned out the same way; Said "F4" option package but that could have been made up on the spot.

Anyways, here are PICS of it!

Welcome! And let's discuss what I should "first do" with this new-to-me Jeep.

I also want to figure out what fuse to pull to disarm the factory alarm first, from what I understand it was giving the previous owner problems. I also want to try to get a fluid extractor to change the trans fluid, unless the trans cooler lines to the radiator are easily accessible?

Quite nice, depends what you want to do with it bud... not sure what you "like" for your cars you could re-paint the cladding and bumpers give it a fresh appearence, you can plastidip your grille and emblems(black or any other color) maybe do the calipers and rims... also you can start changing out your bulbs for LED's or buy aftermarket headlights.. here's some pictures of my jeep with my "gunmetal" wheels(grey primer, and black spray paint) and plastidipped grille.. and aftermarket genIII "Smoked" headlights;

le jeep

Lots of things you can do with these WJ's!

Re: Hello everyone! First Jeep here! Let's talk about it :)

Welcome to the Dub-J club and JeepGarage!

There are two fuse boxes. One's in the engine bay and one is under the dash, driver side. I believe the fuse your looking for is in the engine bay.

As for cosmetic, I'd start with the Recommended Mods thread. It gives a good list of general ideas that look good whether you decide to go street, off-road, or stock.

Soo.. May I ask:

1. Size of oil pan drain plug bolt?
2. How many quarts of oil?
3. 5W-30, right?

... 4: Difficulty to change the spark plugs? (I have on a 1984 Camaro and 1985 Jaguar XJ6 before.)
5: Oil filter size/model?
6: Fuel filter.. All that is needed is screwdriver and same model FF?

That is all I can think of for now.. Oh, and fuel tank capacity?
And were HEATED leather seats an option on the 1999 Laredo, if optioned all the way up?

Thank you! I got the Jeep now it is time to baby it.

Re: Hello everyone! First Jeep here! Let's talk about it :)

Welcome! Nice looking jeep. Some answers for you:

1. On my 4.7 its a 17mm plug, not sure on the 4.0, might be 1/2"?
2. 6 quarts of oil
3. I think 10w-30 is recommened for the 4.0, but either 5w or 10w will work. use 5w and a good synthetic if you live in a cold climate or do lots of stop and go driving or short trips.
4. Spark plugs are pretty easy, just use a spark plug socket and thread them in by hand first. On the I6 they are all straight down one side and not too difficult to get to, except for maybe the rear most plug but a swivel on the ratchet will take care of that.
5. Dont use them, but for a fram filter its a PH16. Go to advance or some parts store and use the book to look up a purolator, Mobile1, or K&N filter, they are all much higher quality for just a little more $ compared to a fram or some cheap store brand.
6. The fuel filter should have 3 connections, 2 are easy, just push the tabs in and pull it apart. The 3rd is a little trickier, you have to push the black ring in and push it toward the filter to release, then apart to separate.

Fuel tank capacity is 20 gallons.

If you have heated seats, the switches are by the power outlets/cig lighter on the center console.

Hope I've helped some!
