Re: Hi from Wales - UK

I've found a 2003 with FSH and low miles - 4L I'm afraid so that's next on the list. These beasties are pretty rare to find in good nick over here aren't they!!!
Might even pull my stainless side exit zorst off my T4 and whack it on the jeep - would sound amazing
Regards
Paul.

Re: Hi from Wales - UK

Bugger, due to see it tomorrow but it got sold today
I've found a 4.7 HO 2004 model with low miles but it's 160 miles away.
Can anyone advise what sort of questions I need to ask before embarking on the journey to see it?
It's got two stamps in the book and looks really good but I'm totally new to these beasties so any advice welcomed.
Many Thanks,
Paul.

When we're all the fluids last changed and were the correct Mopar ones used. Have all filters that needed replaced been done? Check if the blend doors have been replaced at all. Keep an eye out on the engine temp when driving, it should never go over 100c. Turn the radio on and listen for any distortion in the dash speakers (they're on either side of the windscreen). Run through every gear. Check the transmission fluid is at the right level and doesn't have bubbles in it or smell burnt.

Re: Hi from Wales - UK

Nice one mate, I'm only used to Ford V's so I'll be sure to check.
Looks like a nice bit of kit and am amazed that the mpg is the same as the 4L. If I get it I'll be LPGing it too.
Good thing is that it hasn't already got a tow bar so I know it hasn't had a hard time in it's past life pulling whatever.
Can't let the wife drive it tho eh !!!
Cheers,
Paul.

Only one question needed: When can i take it home...........
2004 HO with low miles sounds very good. Even more power then the standard 4.7.
Ask them if the jeep was dealer maintained and if they have a proof of all the maintenance done. Also good to know if it ever was damaged in an accident.
If you are going to look at the jeep, see if there is any oil/fluid leaks, check the color of the coolant in overflow bollte (not rusty brown for example), listen to the engine with the hood open to discover any strange noises and look at the overflow bottle to see if there are no bubbles in the fluid. Check the engine coolant temperature when driving, but also during a few minutes of idling, to be sure that the cooling fan works (this jeep has a hydraulic driven cooling fan).
The transmission fluid should look red in color when not changed too long ago and should have a sweet smell. It can become a little brownish after time, but the smell should still be somehow sweet. Any other strange smell to it is not a good sign.

Re: Hi from Wales - UK

Cheers Frank,
All information on board. I'd really like to get this one as I spoke to the owner and he says it ruins a 4.4 Range Rover he used to have.
Wife can stay with a VW Golf GT TDi 130 for now as I think that's quick enough for her. :0)
Cheers,
Paul.

Hi Frank,
59K miles for a 2004 seems hardly used for a V8?
All the images I can see show the idle revs @ about 500 so the thing is hardly turning over.
Really want this one!!!!!

Re: Hi from Wales - UK

500 idle is perfect. These engines can knock up some serious mileage if looked after. It will put a huge smile on your face when you floor it too!

59K miles is indeed not much for a 2004 and especially for a V8. But it all depends on if the regular maintenance was performed on time and how the previous owner threated the jeep. Idle indeed revs between 500-600 rpm.

Maybe on the speed side considering the fact the Jeep is lighter but not on spec or build quality...
