His build looks cool, I like the air intake but never liked blacked out headlights or fogs. I don't see the point of limiting your seeing ability just for a matched look.

NXXT, if you don't mind my asking, What are you majoring in?

I would only do the lift and tires like he did. I would also take a woman like he has in his pictures lol.

My major is in X Ray Technology but would also like to finish my major in Business Administration so I can keep my options open. I could either be in Hospital Administration or work in another company at a corporate level. I have also been flirting with changing it back to being an Air Traffic Controller but that probably won't happen lol. Even though, aviation is my first and true interest.

1) X-Ray Technology sounds cool

2) I'm thinking about doing Business Administration as well. I've always loved everything that had to do with Corporations like mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and the like. These days, the level of greed that has occurred with some of these bigger companies is a true shame.

3) An Air Traffic Control would be cool but I'm not so sure I would be cool with the TSA and their Holier Than Thou attitude always breathing down my neck lol. I have a friend in Florida that told me that they have fans that drive around advertising about them keeping you safe lol, I thought they were restricted to airports and things like that. They seem more like an occupational force than anything lol.

LOL, WJs are anything but bullet proof. Preprare for heater cores, blend doors, endless gear whine, and power steering pumps.

Re: Is it true?

I had a '97 Jeep Cherokee Sport while I was in college in PA. It took a beating and it would go anywhere. Got it for the same reason as you, wish I still had it some days

Re: Is it true?

I love my 04 WJ it's drives like a dream with the 2 inch lift I also have 265/75/16's on it so good size tires under it. But it's the 4.0 awd limited with 120k on it and is just starting to get broken in lol don't think I will ever regret buying a newer one after my last 2 (90's cherokee's 300k miles) any way good luck with buying yours they are great vehicles

Thanks cheapjeep. I understand that completely. Every vehicle has their issue. How gas your 04' treated you?
I have a '99 4.0 six and an'04 4.7 HO V8 and if I don't romp on it the V8 will beat the six in mpg in any category hands down. 16 and 20.5 mpg V8 vs.15 and 19 mpg for the six. One thing about the 4.0 is the '99 has 230k on it and still has a lot left. The '04 has 67k and who knows if it's capable of hitting that mark.

And I thought 135K was a lot. That's pretty awesome you're at 230k, I didn't know Jeep's were capable of getting that high lol. Thank god the I6 is built like a tank.

Re: Is it true?

If you're looking for a true bullet-proof vehicle, look for a late model XJ. Those things are about as bullet-proof as any vehicle could get. That's what I had before I got my WJ...which I love.

I've done some minor repairs to it, but nothing extensive. I got it with under 70k and am rocking 87k now. Runs beautifully, and the 4.7L HO definitely fits the "fun" category". If you can, find a 4.7 or the 4.7L HO. You'll be glad you did when it comes time to re-sell it. The 4.0L is an awesome, durable, proven motor as well, but it's just a dog when it comes to performance.
Other than that, no one thread will tell you what you need to know. I truly believe that 90% of a vehicle's problems are created by the lack of maintenance or abuse of the prior drivers. All you can do is look it over with a fine toothed comb and make sure that when YOU get it...you get it caught up on all of it's maintenance and keep it that way.
BUT, if you're looking for something to tool around in for 2 years, you may want to look at something less substantial, like the XJ or maybe a TJ. Those are REAL fun, have great re-sale, and are super easy to lift.

Re: Is it true?

My WJ has the 4.7 HO and it is a fun Jeep to drive. As far as bullet proof, I'm at 160K and still running great and not losing any oil or anything. I have had tranny issues (I think it's more bad repair in the first place) and a leaking seals in the rear axle. Other than that, it has been regular maintanance. My 94 ZJ has the 5.2 V8 and its at 144k. Great engine, especially with some mods, but I just replaced a head gasket (first real issue I've had). I don't think that is all that common though. These Jeeps are pretty tough. I drive a lot of miles at night, and I've collected a few deer along the way. I nailed one head on last fall with the WJ. Killed the deer instantly and threw it at least 150 ft. Busted the grill and knocked one headlight out of alignment, but didn't dent the hood or bust the radiator. To me that's pretty tough. I beat my Jeeps pretty good too. I drive a ton of miles on gravel at speeds in excess of 70-80 mph (it keeps you on your toes LOL), tow trailers, haul tools, lumber, even rocks in the back and I still take them to get groceries. I'm going through a set of tires every 8mos to a year (a lead foot and gravel chews them up pretty bad), but otherwise they soak it up great. I am a lead foot most of the time, so my mileages range from 12-17 on the 4.7HO to 14-19 on the 5.2. I used to deliver 300 newspapers everyday in town and I was still averaging 12.4 with the 4.7HO. That's as good as the 3.1 V6 in my buddy's lumina doing the same job. The paper route was pretty rough on the tranny and may be why I've had issues.

The weak link in the 4.0 WJs and any ZJ is the tranny. My old 5.2 ZJ had to have the trans rebuilt at 140k and the '99 4.0 WJ at 160k. They say the 545s in the V8 WJs are better.

My theory has always been if they put the 545rfe behind the 5.7 Hemi's still to this day, they must be a pretty solid transmission.
