Is there something wrong with my AC?

So, ever since I bought the Jeep two years ago I've always thought the AC never got very cold. I drive other cars (Xterra and Mazda) and they both get much colder then the Jeep. And believe me, not having good AC in Florida is miserable. Also, I've noticed I get barely any air coming out of the passenger and drivers side air vents (ones nearest the doors) even when on full blast.
I'm stopping by at Advance Auto today to get an AC recharge kit and see if that helps with the temperature. Anyone know why I get barely any pressure out of those vents though? I don't have dual climate so it cant be the blend doors...

Re: Is there something wrong with my AC?

I had the same problem occur when I had my wj two times once was the Blower motor resistor and the second time was when the shaft on the blend door broke causing it to fall on top of the blower motor itself blocking airflow to the vents. Here are a couple links that should be helpful for the connector and recirculating door issues. Though I had the AZC climate controls these links should help since they discuss both types. If you find your recirculating door is broken I recommend http://www.blendorstore.com/ I bought recirc and blend doors from them since they are made from aluminum and can withstand more pressure than the actuators could ever produce.

Re: Is there something wrong with my AC?

Is there a way to check if it's the recirculating door? I just want to see before I take it in. I have a warrantee that covers AC but theyre convinced nothings wrong with it...

Re: Is there something wrong with my AC?

Easiest way is to drop the blower motor itself and look up in the HVAC assembly. If the shaft broke it will be sitting right there in the opening or could be still semi attached and just dangling there towards the top.

Re: Is there something wrong with my AC?

From what I read on the blend door website tech tips neither really match my description. The blend door problems symptoms are blowing out hot air when on cold, etc, stuff like that. It said if its the recirculation door you'd get little or no air coming out of ANY vents when on HI. I get good flow from the middle vents, it's the side ones that barely work.

I'll take a look when I get off work tonight and post my findings. I'm not to tech savy so hopefully I don't break something lol.

Re: Is there something wrong with my AC?

There is indeed quite a bit of difference between the center outlets and the side outlets. This seems to be normal. If you close the center outlets, does the flow increase to the side outlets? There where some problems as well with the sealing of the airducts. If the flow is too low, it could be because of an air leak behind the dash.
If the temperature from the AC is not cold enough, it indeed could be a too low charge. When it gets really too low, the AC pump will not even start, but if its just above this limit, the capacity is too low as well and the air coming out of the vents will not be that cold.
It can still be an other problem in the AC system as well, condenser air channels blocked, evaporator, AC compressor.......

Re: Is there something wrong with my AC?

When you have your AC on does your AC compressor cycle much, at Idle? When driving? You might have a slow leak. You might also have condesation in your system. The accumulator might need to be changed, the system pulled to a vacuum and then recharged.. Those fix it's in a can are good if you plan on getting rid of the car with in a certain time frame. I've seen many customers use those and it clogs A LOT of the passages in the system.. Most of those have stop leak in it. Unless you just get a small can of R-134a and buy the adapter hose to put it in. But still those little gauges on the $10 hose aren't worth anything. Not accurate at all and most of the time you either under fill or over fill it.

Re: Is there something wrong with my AC?

Just took it in to get the transmission flushed for the first time (Apparently it hadn't been done despite what the dealer said 2 years ago) and our local mechanic said the AC compressor is basically dead. He said it still works, just not nearly as well as it should.

So, I'm taking it into the Jeep dealer Friday as we bought an extended warranty and they're going to do a full and complete AC diagnostics and replace what needs to be.

Re: Is there something wrong with my AC?

Alright, so just in case anyone else a related problem, they can look back and relate to this topic.

To start off with, the previous owner of the car was an idiot. From what the dealer could find, the mechanical fan had been unplugged which was essentially confusing the AC compressor not allowing it to stay on, hence the no cool air. After plugging the fan in they found that the reason the owner must've unplugged it was because the relay was broken so the fan would constantly stay on. So, after fixing that, I am now getting cool air! They also found several leaks in the upper cooling hoses, along with a deteriorating thermostat.

So, the dealer/me are replacing the following items...
Dealer:
Fan relay.
Cooling flush.
Driver's side power seat track and motor
Drivers side auto window down clip
Me:
Hoses
Thermostat and bracket

Not all that bad, just a bunch of minor stuff.
