Might be purchasing a 04 Limited

Hey guys. My girlfriend currently has an 04 Limited out on an overnight test drive and she loves it. It has 69k miles on it. What are some common problems that usually come up with these? It has the 4.7 Power Tech motor in it. I don't know a whole lot about the WJs so I appreciate some help!

Thanks!!

Re: Might be purchasing a 04 Limited

I love my 01 Limited WJ! The front brakes were fixed in 02 so that wont be a problem, also I believe the HVAC blend doors were better by 04 but im not certain. I have seen a few others besides myself have trouble with the window motor/regulator assemblies up front but those are pretty easy to fix yourself.

Now on to mods, lol. IMO the WJ looks better debaged, but thats obviously up to you. I would highly recommend the Bilstein shocks, and I have heard great things about the addco front and rear sway bars, those are next on my to do list. The suspension mods really help on road handling, especially for semi to aggressive drivers. And the 4.7 moves pretty good, makes it fun to get on the throttle.

Good luck I hope it works out for ya!

PS: what color?

Thanks for the input! Not sure how much modding will happen since it's going to be her car, but who knows.

I'm going to crawl underneath it this afternoon and take a look. Hopefully everything checks out.

Re: Might be purchasing a 04 Limited

Sweet! One other thing I would check is the power steering, again not sure if it was fixed by the time the 04's were made, but mine leaks where the main hose connects to the steering pump.

Re: Might be purchasing a 04 Limited

I have a 04 myself and until 2 months ago it didn´t give me much problems. Unfortunately then i lost 3rd gear, which was caused by a bad solenoid pack seal. Five weeks after the repair same thing again, same seal broken. Still waiting for my jeep to return, but this is not a common thing to happen.
If you know the maintenance history of the car and all necessary service items have been done, there is not too much to worry about. If it drives nice without any strange noises, it should be ok. As 01grand said, test the airco system if you can have hot and cold air on both sides, because a blend door repair is something costly, because they have to remove the whole instrument panel to get access.
When under it, check for any leaks on diffs, axles and T-case. The diffs are pretty good, but when used with low fluid level, you can expect troubles.

Hello and Howdy...
I have an '04 WJ (like your prospect) and the more I drive it the more I like it.
It is the Sport edition meaning it is bare stock. I was surprised to see a spare tire included. lol
It has the I6 cylinder engine and having just returned from a trip to California from Arizona I averaged 20.9 miles per gallon. I was pleasently appreciative.
It is perfect as a DD and quite acceptable as an off road vehicle.
I have no complaints and would recommend you considering purchasing it especially with so few miles.

Re: Might be purchasing a 04 Limited

01grand, did you already try to torque the hose fitting. If that doesn´t help, you could try to change the o´seal which is in there.

Not really yet, I kind of tried but its hard to get on with the heater hose over it. It's on my list of things to do, but the leak is so slow it takes about 2oz to top it off each month. Thanks for the tip on torquing it, I was just gonna replace it. I will check the o ring too.
