There are a lot of internal differences between the HO and the standard 4.7...

And the 4.7 is not rubbish and can take a lot of abuse. Every engine displacement on the planet has had failures.

I get fincky too if I'm not babied correctly.

Don't believe everything you hear...

Some people graduated tech class with A's. Some people with C's. You might be talking to the "C" mechanic

You would want the ECM out of the 4.7L HO Jeep ideally because the tuning is different for the two engines.

Re: My new to me WJ!!

The mode door motor should not be too bad to change, you only have to remove the center instrument face plate. For the mode door itself it a whole other story, then you will have to remove the whole instrument panel.

Re: My new to me WJ!!

UPDATE: I was told by an old school mech to put a 1qt of trans fluid in the oil to clean it out a bit and to drive it for 50-100miles then change the oil. I use dex III, the reason being i got a 2nd opinon and he says it sounds like a lifter/rocker arm problem. Crazy thing is after driving it for about 5 miles and letting it idle for 20-30 mins it did start to quiet down a lil bit and only really tapped when i hit the gas...So im gonna try that and see what happen. Im gonna open the valve cover this week and look for my self.

What kinda tricks or tips do you guys have for removing the valve covers? If it is a lifter rocker arm problem what should i look for?

Re: My new to me WJ!!

Lifter tick normally happens when the hydraulic lash adjuster is leaking and not adjusting the clearance. So you should be able to find the leaking adjuster(s) by trying to move the rockerarms one by one and feel if there is some play.
