Smile My new to me WJ!!

Well i acquired a Graphite Metallic Peral WJ last night for a great deal but it needs some work. Its a 02 Limited V8 with Quadradrive. It has 120k but it needs the following maintenance done:

-Air bag light is on
-ABS light is on
-Rotors and pads
-Valve Tap (rocker arm problem), praying that's it.
-New Battery
-Needs tires (maybe some 30" all terrains???)

-Driver Side window regulator and/or motor(window is just sitting in the bottom of the door, clanking around every time you open/close the door.

-Air flow is messed up in the a/c system because there is no air coming from the vents but also you cannot change the air direction from face to defrost etc it jut doesn't respond. The blower motor work and the heats works but you cant not change the direction of air flow.

-Needs a rear bumper
-Needs a tailight,

Other than those issues its clean and it has been sitting since Jan 2011. I was in a accident from wha ti can tell, there is some over spray on the truck but its gonna be a DD and fun mini trail rider. I plan on putting a 4.5-6" lift with some 31-33" tires gotta see what i can fit in there stock. If you guys have any input on this vehicle or tips and tricks please feel free to let me know. Also im in NoVa.....I hope to be enjoying this truck by next week and before all the "SNOW"

Re: My new to me WJ!!

If you're doing rotors and pads, check into whether or not you have the Teves or Akebono calipers on your Jeep. The Teves ones are bad news...and now would be the perfect time to convert to the Akebono set up. The Teves front calipers were known for having issues.

As for HVAC, do some searchs on here regarding the "blend doors". It's a common problem with the WJ...especially with dual zone climate controls.

Lastly, I've got some flawless modded tails for sale cheap if you're interested. http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=30040

Nope, but you can probably find one at a junk yard, eBay or Rock Auto.

Re: My new to me WJ!!

well i found out that 1999-2000 window regulators are different from 2001-2004. I guess my jeep had the driver door replaced because its diff color under the panel and the 2002 window regulator and motor did not work. Can anyone confirm that the 99-00 window regulator and motor are different than 2001-2004?..thank you

Re: My new to me WJ!!

When you can't change the airflow from defrost to other positions, your problem is the mode door. Having a limited, you should have the automatic zone control system. Not so often that i heard of mode door problems on this one. This door is electrically controlled. You can access the mode door actuator by removing a part of the center instrument panel. With the actuator removed, you can see if the actuator rotates depending on the selection, or if the door is the problem.
You can read faults in the HVAC system as follows:

ENTERING THE AZC SELF-DIAGNOSTIC MODE
To enter the AZC self-diagnostic mode, perform the
following:
(1) Depress the a/c and recirc buttons at the same
time and hold. Rotate the left temperature control
knob clockwise (CW) one detent.
(2) If you continue to keep the a/c and recirc buttons
depressed, the AZC control module will perform
a Segment Test of the Vacuum Fluorescent (VF) display.
In the Segment Test you should see all of the
display segments illuminate as long as both buttons
are held. If a display segment fails to illuminate, the
vacuum fluorescent display is faulty and the a/c
heater control must be replaced.
(3) After viewing the Segment Test, release the
A/C and Recirc buttons and the display will clear
momentarily.
If a 0 is displayed, then no faults
are set in the system.
Should there be any faults,
either
currentor historical, all fault codes will be
displayed in ascending numerical sequence (note no
effort is made to display fault codes in chronological
order). Each fault code is displayed for one second
before the next code is displayed. Once all fault codes
have been displayed, the system will then repeat the
fault code numbers. This will continue until the left
side set temperature control is moved at least one
detent position in the CW direction or the ignition is

turned
OFF.

You will most probably end up with a code 13 (Mode Motor not responding) or a code 17 (Mode Door Travel TOO small)

For the airbag light and ABS light, best to connect a DRBIII reader to read the fault codes.
The valve tap could be a hydraulic valve lash adjuster, but you will only find out by removing the valve cover.

Re: My new to me WJ!!

Your Jeep has Quadradrive and is always in full time four wheel drive. I do not believe there is an indicator on the dash that states that you are in 4x4.
