Every sprayed paint with a flat clear?
No reason you couldn't stick with a 4WD for something like that, and running enough boost you would probably start to want the added traction.

Never heard of a matte clear.

Re: New Project:

There's some additive you add to the clear to make it appear flat. I forget what it is.

The reason I want 2wd is for minimum weight, and less parts to replace if drivetrain parts start breaking. Looking for a Laredo sans sunroof, since I plan on pretty much gutting the thing of all parts unnecessary for anything but a straight line. I'm thinking a gutted WJ can get down to around 3500lbs with all the crap ripped out/off of it. I really want to see what a 4.7 can do in a semi-light weight package with a proper setup, and not having to swap it into another chassis. I have the room and the ability to tear something apart, and the money that can be gained from selling parts is a ton easier than fabbing/cutting/welding something else up to make an engine fit that might just grenade a diff or require tons of fabrication. I don't mind fabricating parts, but it's just so much cheaper to start with a WJ. D44's are strong, and the rear suspension in a WJ is actually quite good. I'd hate to dump a ton of money in a Dakota with a 4.7 just to get spooky halfway down the track or have a rear suspension design that's hard to make hook. Plus, the weight of a dakota is pretty much set; there's not a ton you can remove from a single cab 2wd truck that already weighs close to 4000lbs. And I fit better into a WJ than a single cab dakota(which I've owned before).

Plus, I just want to see a WJ lift a front tire or two.

Re: New Project:

D44's are strong, WJ aluminum D44s are crap.

If you really wanted to start putting down some power through one you would be better off grabbing a ford 8.8 and burning on the brackets from your existing axle.

Not much else to break on a 4WD, running a 231 or 241 transfer case would be plenty strong, heck even the 242 is a pretty strong unit.

Re: New Project:

True. I could run more of a street friendly tire as well. I've got about 6 months to plan before I make a purchase, and there's plenty of 4wd WJ's around these parts. I was also concerned about room underneath the WJ as well, since that transfer case and front driveshaft take up a lot of room where a low mounted turbo could go. A 242 would definitely be the way to go with 4wd.

Re: New Project:

If you really did want to make a "sport" WJ there are things you could think about beyond the 4.7. 2JZ turbo will mate to an AW4 with a 242, couple of people have done similar projects in XJs.

SRT8 swap would be pretty slick and since its all PCI bus based you can have a super clean install.

Re: New Project:

My point of doing it is to see what I can get from a 4.7.

body work fascinates me! Something I will NEVER be able to do and it is amazing seeing the progress from someone whom knows how to do it. Good work!

Buncha pics:

Dirty nasty dingy headliner, looked way worse than the photo showed:

test cleaning a spot, comes clean easy!

Clean!

Turned out very nice, came clean easily with just dawn water and a sponge. Dried quick too in the sun.

Checking alingment:

Paint match is nice:

Nice clean headliner:

Random carp:

Dirty dirty carpet:

Driveway is getting full:

Got some more carp on tonight and took it for a little drive around the neighborhood, so far so good, drives nice.

Need to buff the front fenders and hood, do bodywork on the left rear 1/4 panel, paint, buff, need to recharge the ac, evacuated the system tonight and am watching the gauge, looks like its holding a charge, need to do a cooling system flush(someone mixed red and green antifreeze), throw a new set of brake pads on the front, pull front seats and shampoo carpets, throw the center console back in after the carpet is clean, figure out something for a radio in it. Gotta get my title transfer done....gonna cost some $$$ for that......

close, so close!
