New tie rod end groan

Hello all jeepers.. I just replaced a loose tie rod end on an 04 GC (rt outer). Upon install, I drew it up so high that the cotter pin sits completely above the castle nut by about 3 threads. Now, during slow maneuvers I get a steering groan. It even seams to handle worse than before.. Do you guys think the hole in the knuckle has been wore larger, allowing the end to go up so far? Or a defective tie rod end. It is a Mevotech supreme. The old one looks very inexpensive, but it fit right. Thanks for the help

If the old rod end was fitting right, then there should have been no way of causing any wear to the hole in the knuckle. I would say that there is something wrong with the specs of the new rod end. (and probably also with the ball in the rod end)
I had some Mevotech stuff before. The overall quality seems to be fine, but it will not hold for long.

Thanks Frank. I took apart. Put the end back in the knuckle and spun it back and forth 90 degrees. No noise. Reassembled and drove it again, noise is back. Discovered the steering stabilizer is binding up.. Its a Rough Country. Not sure if they will warranty it.. I cant drive it like this, it could get stuck. Guess I need to bite the bullet and get one locally.
