Oil Filter

I bought a MOPAR oil filter the last 2 oil changes. So I was at Wal-Mart and got oil change supplies, but couldn't remember If It was the 899 or 090. So I grabbed the 090, but when I got home It didn't fit (threads were too big). So I grabbed the box of the old oil filter I used before and It was an MO-899. Everyone that has a Jeep like me says the 090 Is the correct filter. I don't know If someone switched filters or boxes or what but the threads were to big. So I had to go to AutoZone and get a 899 and that fitted (and this Is after I put all the oil I drained out back In). So which Is the correct filter the MO-899 (currently Installed) or the MO-090? I have an 04 WJ Overland with the 4.7 V8 High Output

Re: Oil Filter

There are three filters that share threads that fit your 4.7. The smallest is the one that is called for from the factory, the larger unit is used on Hemis in Rams, and there is a still larger filter that would likely fit but I have not tried it. I am using the larger Hemi filter that xreferences to the Motocraft FL-1A/Fram PH8A but I go with Wicks/Napa Gold filters on my rides.

Re: Oil Filter

HP-2004 is the proper K&N oil filter in the event that you decide to stray from OE filters. Good quality filter with a nut welded on the end for easy wrenching on and off. They are readily available at Get in the Zone, AwfulZone.

Re: Oil Filter

I also have used Mopar filters, but I just bought my last oil change stuff at Advance Auto because they had my Valvoline on sale and it came with a free filter, choice of 3. I opted for the K&N and it seems to be working fine so far. No leaks, no pressure change, and I like the welded nut on top. The other 2 choices were Fram and Purolater. I believe the standard Mopar thread is UNF 3/4-16.

Re: Oil Filter

Napa Gold 1515 is the unit that I was trying to remember in my last post. Made by Wix and one of the best filters on the market.
