Re: Over drive was off.....

If you put the tranny in 2nd, thats were its going to stay. There is no over drive in 2nd gear.

Not sure what could have gone wrong, so its a good thing that you're taking it to the dealer.

Re: Over drive was off.....

thanks dreamer1213. any information is helpful esp from WJ owners like your self

let me just reiterate a lil here. ive owned jeeps for over a decade. just never had one that was worth this much (2004 overland) i had a 88 Laredo which i was a teenager didnt really take care of it besides the average teen puts in a vehicle (subs, wheels, dress up stuff- i know haha) then i went to a hand me over 96 Laredo- still never needed anything done to it besides change the oil and stuff. now i own a 2004 WJ overland (which is a beautiful jeep) its more sensitive to anything i ever owned. im going to keep this car for as long as i can and with only 32,000 miles on it...i get worried quicker than usual.

cheers again to everyone, very much enjoy this site!

Re: Over drive was off.....

I too love the wj : )

I experienced with my jeep that you could accidentally slip it in between 2nd and drive, which made the tranny slip noticably, so I'd let off the gas slow down to around 2G and then shift it to D, I never had a problem with it other than that and accidentally putting it into 2nd, but I think that erleep is right on with this.

Re: Over drive was off.....

the one that i am talking about it in the trans you would have to drop the pan to get to it on mine it was two 10mm bolts and a plug but on your it could be different as i have a 93 Laredo

Re: Over drive was off.....

first of all- id like to thank EVERYONE for assisting me with my problem with the jeep.

i just got back from the dealership after dropping it off there for routine service/maintenance. also told them to check the car at speeds of 75 and above for the Trans.

its also there for the heated seat recall (J 14) so that part wont be there until thursday so i im looking at at least a week and half with out my baby....

good thing is everyone at this dealership (upstate ny) knows me for quite some time- been going to this dealer for my last two jeeps so it was cake just getting my car bumped up to the front of the line. heheh

while i was there i was drooling over the 2010 SRT8- just looks soo beasty!!! - i look at SRT's like theyre Ferraris! haha

They are one of the Ferrari's of SUV's...LOL!

What the heck...they have to keep the Jeep at the dealer until the heated seat part comes in? Why can't' you have it and just take it in when they part is there?

yeah , they said the part comes in on thursday. but in the mean time they are diagnosing the Trans problem.... (even though they bumped me up into the shop_ they said it really wont be worked on until monday for the trans. i had my brother tail me in (my old jeep 96 laredo) all the way upstate so i can leave it there and he drove me back.

i hope its nothing crazzy.

btw free coffee and dougnuts and OJ as you walked in... thats always nice

Re: Over drive was off.....

Ahhh...I see...that makes sense. I hope its nothing major either. Does it still shift smoothly? It just has a vibration above 75 mph?

Free stuff is always nice...lol!

Re: Over drive was off.....

it doesnt shift as smooth as it use to and it starts to vibrate at 80 like the car kind of feels when you going 110mph but your at 80mph kind of feeling.

one thing i want to add, one time on my trip up there i let go the gas on a 65mph road and the trans did a hiccup. i dunno if thats the correct term to use. the car sort of jerked back- i felt it. any ideas what that was?

btw where is the best place to make a thread for the stuff i already and planning to do to the overland? should i just continue the stuff in here or leave this be after i get the (hopeful) good news in a week and half

Re: Over drive was off.....

I have no idea what could cause a hiccup. LOL...

Depends on what you wanna discuss...either the performance, visual, or WJ sub category's would be fine I think..
