picking up an 01 WJ 4x4

Im going to pick up an 01 WJ 4.0 I6 4x4 on Sunday, it has a great body and interior, im getting it for cheap because the owner says it has a slight knock in the motor and he's moving and doesnt want to take it with him., my friend has a wrecked 99-00 cherokee with what looks like the same 4.0 engine, my question is will the 6cyl cherokee engine work in the 01 grand cherokee? Thanks.

The best I have gotten with the 4.0 is 21 mpg. That was on a flat stretch with the wind behind me. Make sure to check the electric fan operation, heater core and evaporator. If they are bad the whole dash has to come out to replace them. Don't know wheather or not the engines are compatable.

I just got 24.5mpg on an all interstate trip (calculated, not from overhead console).

There are a ton of different opinions on this. I would say yes as long as they are both coil pack motors but you might want to check this out. http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums...d.php?t=529480
