Re: Rear upper A arm bushings

That IRO piece is badass! 2" lift? I am going to do the UC Springs with OME spacers and wonder if that is close enough to 2" for it to work. I am very much about the do it one time and forgeduhboutit mindset and this looks like a real option short of poly bushings in the stock unit. Anyone got the dimensions of the crap replacement piece?

I'd give them a call and see what they think because that's a way better system. They don't strike me as the kind of company that would bs ya just for a sale. I just noticed that I too have been Aaronized with his inferior parts line from Rock Auto. I looked at the boxes of parts I ordered last year and seen that the upper control arm bushings for the front diff are Omix. Not sure if I'm gonna use them now. Hopefully somebody makes a polly bushing for them because if not those will be the only rubber in the whole suspension. From what I hear changing those isn't a job you want to do twice.
Man springs...hahahahha. Don't you worry about my o-rings pal. You don't know where my o-ring has been.

I did get in contact with them and they told me what you're telling me. It's a no-go on a stock height Dub. They do sell the Dorman replacement bushings for the OE arm though. I also searched for poly bushings and couldn't find a damn thing. We're stuck with rubber...unless one of your "off-roadin'" outfits has something a google seach can't find. I'd even go for Toxic Green if there were such poly bushings for this. Like you said...I'd rather deal with a stiffer ride than have to do this crap a 3rd time.

Re: Rear upper A arm bushings

If we could get dimensions it might be possible to cross-reference them to something similar. A close poly match can be no worse than the crappy rubber pieces.

Re: Rear upper A arm bushings

Here's something that might be of interest to us if we had oe dimensions. I could measure the front upper axle side bushings because I have a new set laying here but nothing else. With the long arms everything else is gonna be poly anyway so this may just work for me. Anybody have any of the other bushings laying around? Prothane Suspension Parts - Universal Bushings

Re: Rear upper A arm bushings

I try to keep my bushings well trimmed...so I don't have any extra bushings lying around.

I've got to do something about my noisy rear end.

Once I figure out how I want to attack this, I'll make sure I get some good measurements and post them up. I may even buy replacement bushings, measure them, see if Prothane offers them, and then return them if I have to.

They are kinda funky shaped though, aren't they? I can't imagine a universal one working in our application.

Re: Rear upper A arm bushings

So I just ordered up a whole new upper A-arm (omix) and a greasable upper Moog ball joint. Once it arrives, I'm removing the omix bushings that come with it, measuring, and posting up here along with searching for the most durable option. The new a-arm will likely get 12 coats of paint because that's how I roll, and I figured while I was in there, AGAIN, I might as well replace the upper ball joint AGAIN.

Re: Rear upper A arm bushings

Thanks! This gives some of us slackers/procrastinators options. I wonder if Prothane would make one up?

Dorman shows this same bushing is used on the KJ's too. Even more potential market for a poly bushing!

Re: Rear upper A arm bushings

The new rear upper has arrived, pre-loaded with crappy bushings. I'll be looking to press those out and replace them with something much better if possible. I've got emails in to 4wd Hardware and Energy Suspension to see if they can help at all. Bushing dims are 2-5/8" tall, 1-7/8" diameter at the top, and a 1/2 bolt hole.

What do you guys think about filling the voids in this bushing with silicone or butyl rubber? Wouldn't that reduce the flexibility and therefore reduce the amount of wear that kill these things? Opinions? Don't forget...opinions are like boltholes.

This is a common trick with the front mounts on the A33 Nissan Maximas as well as a few other front drivers. It cannot hurt...

Re: Rear upper A arm bushings

So how are you guys removing and installing the bushings from the control arm?

Re: Rear upper A arm bushings

Removing would be easy for me - Propane torch!

I would actually cut the center section of the bushing out with a sawzall then cut part way thru the outer section of the bushing. Once that was done I would go at it with a cold punch and 2LB hammer.

Yeah, except I'm trying to remove them whole...so I can get accurate measurements. I'm also going to need to install the new ones. Not sure a torch and sawzall will help with the installation part....
