Replacement cv axle, huh?

I purchased a new cv axle, I have a 02 4.7 limited all time 4x4. Shift bezel states Quadra drive. I purchase a quadra drive axle passenger side, I remove old one and place next to new one, longer by an inch! So I verify I purchased correct part and I did. I go local and ask for a non Quadra drive axle and it fits. Wtf? Could my front axle of been replaced at one point? The old cv has a date code stamped 08/2011

Re: Replacement cv axle, huh?

For sure the CV has been replaced before. Did you ever check if there is a vari-lok in the front diff? Could be that they changed the whole front axle with an open diff one.

Re: Replacement cv axle, huh?

So is the new quadra drive axle longer then the old one? If so, it could be that a too short shaft was installed before and for that reason the front wheels are not driven.

Re: Replacement cv axle, huh?

Hmmm well its about 1" tonlong seems like. When I install either one the splines into the diff i get a positive engagement and it doesn't free spin. For the time being the shaft is still good, but I will be pulling the cover and inspecting if any damage or parts been swapped
