Seized Caliper and Audio Steering wheel control buttons

I have a 04 WJ I6 Special Edition. 2 years ago the right front caliper seized. I ended up replacing both front calipers and rotors and pads all around. I started to notice a decrease in mpgs (I know multiple things could cause this). And an inconsistent from end shake around 50mph. I started to google how to tell if a caliper is seized, and towards end of last week I noticed the right front lug nuts and wheel hotter then the rest. Seized caliper again. Could anyone tell me what would have caused this to happen again?

Also I have an aftermarket Pioneer head unit and I have the pac swi x module hooked up so I am able to control with my steering wheel buttons. Also these have been intermittently not working. They have been installed over a year now. Nothing has changed. The other day only 1 button of the 6 worked, the rest didn't. I was ready to think the shop that fixed my brakes maybe moved the remote eye. But like I said wasn't 100% before that either. Yesterday and today they have been working better. But, you really have to press the buttons hard. I don't think it would be the clock spring as the horn and cruise control work. Do the steering wheel buttons go bad? Or get dirty inside? I was thinking maybe loose wire, but when 1 button worked not rest, I put that to rest. I am thinking maybe reseting the module and reprogramming it.

Thanks in Advance
Jason

Re: Seized Caliper and Audio Steering wheel control buttons

I dont think there is much that you can do about the seize problem ,other then rebuild or replace it . I think the weather here ( NE) speeds it along a bit . Road salt etc.

The only thing I would suggest is to anti-seize the pins when you reinstall them.

sounds like the buttons are dirty on the radio thing

Re: Seized Caliper and Audio Steering wheel control buttons

The seized caliper is most probably due to lack of lubricant on the sliding pins. These pins should be lubricated in accordance with the maintenance schedule.

Re: Seized Caliper and Audio Steering wheel control buttons

Jason I ran into a similar problem with my SW interface a little while back. Check your connections but also those boxes don't like heat. In the winter months with the heater running all of the duct work back there gets hot plus the heat of the HU can cause problems. I pulled my HU and tried to make sure the interface doesn't end up getting jammed between the unit and the ducting when reinstalling. Mine has been working good since.

Re: Seized Caliper and Audio Steering wheel control buttons

Thanks for the tips everyone. I will make sure to keep on the sliding pins in these calipers. Thanks Dave. I ended up mounting the interface behind the panel under the steering wheel, beneath the gauges. I am not a big fan of too much heat in the jeep LOL, I keep the air coming out of the defroster vents. I will definitely check everything out when I can. The controls were behaving themselves this morning and last night on my travels. Maybe something was loose, and ended up back in place. Hmmm

resolved the steering wheel control issue. Reprogrammed the module a few days ago and has been behaving since

Re: Seized Caliper and Audio Steering wheel control buttons

thanks Dave. I know some might say it's silly. But, it's actually a really convenient feature. With them not working I found myself not changing stations as often LOL
