Shift kit

I have my transmission apart now and was thinking about the use of a shift kit. I know that some of you guys overhere use it, but on other sites i saw mixed results.
What is the big advantage of using the shift kit above the standard tranny? I like the way the tranny is shifting now and don't want it to become harsh. Seems that the higher pressure and stronger accumulator springs make the shifting quicker and cause less wear, but if the shifting will become harsh, i will keep it as is.
Any info where to get the transgo kit for a good price?

I was looking into getting one, but never pushed the button on it so still in my 'wish list' on Summit.

Can't comment on what it does, I thought it firmed the shifts up? Some guys will chime in soon I'd imagine as a few people have them.

Here is the link, probably won't get it much cheaper elsewhere and Summit Racing are a superb company!

After some surfing on the net found this well explaining site about why using a shift kit. I think i will go for the reprogramming shift kit: http://www.txchange.com/transgo.htm, at least when the shipping cost will be reasonable.

DO IT! I love the way mine shifts, its still soft enough at normal to low throttle and when you put your foot down it shifts NOW! Dave will tell you the same thing, the transgo kit is worth every penny. Plus, since you have yours out of the jeep totally you can make use of the stronger snap ring that I believe is for the oil pump. I haven't added the resistor yet since my superchips already bumps up line pressure, but I will be soon as Dave again has both and says it all works together well.

Just saw at summit that for the reprogramming kit the shipping cost is at $ 140 , twice the cost of the kit.....................

It's a good investment Frank and Like Aaron says there a couple of upgraded parts that you can use doing a rebuild that we couldn't.

Seems that there are stronger springs for the valve body accumulators, causing a quicker application of the clutches. There is normally also a resistor in the package, which gives a lower pressure signal to the TCM, causing a 15-20 PSI control pressure increase, also making the shifting quicker. For each gear, always 2 clutches are pressurized. But when changing gear, one pack should be released and an other pressurized. There is a certain time needed to release one and to activate the other, causing pressure on both and causing extra wear on the discs. When you can keep this transition time as short as possible, there will be less wear, less heat buildup and less loss of power from the engine.
