Ski Rack Removal

Am trying to figure out how to remove the ski rack cross members. Not the rails that run fore & aft upon which the cross bars are mounted. Cannot find any reference to them in the owner's manual apart from the typical warnings about not overloading.

There's a small hole in the rear-facing surface that looks like it might be access to a locking pin but cannot determine if that is so.

Thanks,

Re: Ski Rack Removal

This was so long ago....but I want to say that mine came off by simply pulling or pushing on that lever that allows you to slide them forward and backwards. If not, another solution is to remove the rear rail mounts and slide the crossbars right off the back, then reinstall your rear rail mount.

Re: Ski Rack Removal

Thanks, I tried the lever to no avail. I think plan "B", removing the rear rail mount, may wind up being the solution. Being lazy, I was hoping for a less-fussy task.

Best,

Re: Ski Rack Removal

Again, it's been awhile, but I don't think you're looking at too much work to slide them off the back. One or two bolts for each rear mount at most and you should be all set.

Re: Ski/roof Rack Removal

You're right, it was not that bad. Here's a link showing how to remove the rail end caps. The rails themselves do not have to be loosened/detached. I did learn that spreading the inboard side of the cap toward the center of the vehicle was the easiest way to get it to disengage, just as the image shows.
