Sourcing Original Mopar Parts

My 2003 Overland needs a driver's-side tail light. The online Mopar site is not much help. I have what I think is a valid part number (55155139AH) but when I "Google" it I get a lot of aftermarket suggestions.

Given that the car is 10 years old, where's the best (cheapest/fastest/in stock) place to order original equipment parts like this?

Thanks,

Dave M.

Thanks for the source but all they have is the Value Line aftermarket version of this part.

Re: Sourcing Original Mopar Parts

then you need to try and find NOS....new old stock....at about 10 years the factory may stop making new parts and as you see have the dealers sell aftermarket.

what about used....try car-part.com. If you worried about condition the last time I bought something they had no problem getting the part in hand and sending me a pic before I paid.

Yeah, one of the dealers I had called did have one but at list price. Given that they were the last dealership in the country to show one on hand, I went ahead and ordered it.

It would not be surprising to find that there are others out there but since we cannot personally visit each stocking location to look around, we have to rely on the accuracy of their inventory management systems.

What dealer did you use? I can get you wholesale at the Kirkland, or Renton ones.

Unless you got it already.

Re: Sourcing Original Mopar Parts

Thanks for the offer. It was not a matter of price as much as availability. I got a dealership to look at the inventory around the lower 48 and he found that there were four left in dealers' inventories and was kind enough to give me phone numbers to each of them. I called all four and the last one still had the part in stock. I ordered it from them since there was no evidence that there any more to be had at any price.

As mentioned in my previous post, there are probably some number of others in existence but they are simply not shown in the various dealers' inventories. Keep in mind that I'm looking for the original Mopar part and not the "Value Line" replacement. My local dealer can get the "Value Line" part at nearly the cost of the original Mopar.

On the face of it, I got the last original Mopar driver's side tail light for a WJ Grand Cherokee in the USA. I'm sure that in reality that's not true. That there are probably others out there. But if they do not show up on dealers' inventories then I cannot buy one.

I had a similar situation trying to get an original Mopar chrome tubular rear bumper for my 2003 Wrangler. Several dealers inventories showed availability but when I contacted them to buy one it turned out that they did not actually have it in stock.

Posting here I thought that others might have had experience in tracking down older original Mopar model year parts and have had good luck with a particular dealer.

The "problem" with Jeeps is that they are so popular that many after market parts makers and dealers have gotten into the business of "accessorizing". That leaves us owners faced with a great number of non-original parts that tend to cover up or replace the original Mopar parts. In some cases that's a good thing since we can get parts that might not otherwise be available.

BTW: To answer your questions - I did already order it and the dealer was Village Motors in Chelsea, Michigan.
