Re: Spring cleaning....

What type of driveway pavement is that? It looks like concrete without the fines. Very interesting.

Just gravel my man...nothing fancy. It's been driven on so much it's pretty compacted.

Apparently you didn't get much snow this year.

Re: Spring cleaning....

No...luckily we had a very mild winter. That's how the driveway looks regardless of the prior winter though. I thought I'd hate it, but I think I like it over concrete. No puddles, no cracking to worry about, no chipping or heaving, no worries about staining or powerwashing...just a little weed killer every once in awhile.

Re: Spring cleaning....

Hey Tony looking at your pics again that license plate frame has me confused. Is that 2 pieces? I like that puppy. Did you wrap that yourself and where did you get it?

Yes it is 2 pcs. There is a video on how it works....here you go broski....

http://store.carbonfibergear.com/tag...se-plate-frame

That's not a wrap job...that's actually the only thing I have that's REAL carbon fiber...hence the improved horsepower numbers. Duh.

I had a gravel driveway in upstate NY and in spite of rolling it with my '90 Bronco prior to the first snow and then after the first inch to pack in a smooth layer of ice the snowblower would pick up rocks constantly. Every spring I spent at least a half day picking them out of the lawn.

There's the difference...I don't own a snowblower. I'm probably the only guy on the block without one. I have a big azz shovel and we both drive Jeeps, so it's not a concern...yet. I just go out and shovel off as much as I can without hitting gravel. I always end up flicking a few stones off the lawn and back onto the drive, but it's no biggie. I'd rather struggle a little in the winter than pay an arm and a leg for concrete that will crack, stain, etc.

My driveway was impassable without clearing. Back then I had a '90 Ford Bronco with traction lock on both axles- unstoppable under ordinary snow conditions. My wife tried traversing our driveway when we first got the vehicle and it rode up on the skid plates with all four tires 2" above the gravel surface. It took me two hours to dig it out. Wind driven snow is not light and fluffy, but dense and sometimes so hard you need to break it up with a shovel and feed the auger. My blower was 10HP and track drive and I still had to break up snow for it on many occasions.

The wind blew constantly from the west and my 150' long driveway went north-south. Downwind for 1/4 mile was cornfield so after it snowed drifting continued for three days. Since it snowed at least twice per week it was basically constant. We averaged 110" of snow per year but I cleared several times that. My machine would cut a trench in four passes 10' wide and three feet deep in ten minutes. 1" snowfall would result in drifting the entire trench in.

Clear the drift, move the cars in or out, because it would fill back in within 45 minutes. Try clearing that by hand and by the time you are half way the drift would be complete where you started. All trips outside the home, shopping, going to a movie or out to dinner, were coordinated with the commute from work to avoid having to clear the driveway a third time in the same day.

When my wife arrived home before me she had to park in the street and walk through thigh-deep snow. I told her to leave her keys in her pocketbook in case she drops them in the snow and gets stranded. At 0 degrees and 30mph wind she wouldn't survive until I found her.

The last straw for her was when our son was born. She had to set him on his back in a snowsuit and drag him by the hood in the snow, like a sled. She's a strong athletic woman but one time she didn't think she was going to make it. When I got home she was crying thinking of how she and our son would be found frozen out there.

Dude...where is this at?!?! Alaska? That's crazy! I thought the lake effect in NE Ohio was bad...
We've had knee deep snows here...but that's about as bad as it gets.

I know how that goes, I'm from NW PA (in FL now a days). Don't miss the cold but I do miss the snow
