Re: The Blue project!

No dude...I doubt any tire shop would "repair" that. You'll probably need to buy a new one. Do you have a matching spare? Maybe you can throw that on and get by until you buy rims and possibly new tires.

Re: The Blue project!

I'm sure others will chime in...but I call BS on your tire shop. Your tires look pretty new to me. Getting one new replacement for the one that's got the nail in it is not going to do any long-term damage. They should all be the same size and inflated correctly, and preferably the same brand...but a slightly worn tire that's a fraction of a millimeter different isn't going to do anything.

Re: The Blue project!

According to discount tire (Tire gods in my opinion) the only repairable area is the tread, shoulder and sidewall punctures can not be repaired. Also according to them quadra-drive jeeps should all be within 1/16th", maybe 2/16ths" in tread depth, otherwise you risk damaging the axles and transfer case. (maybe they just say that to avoid finger pointing to tire problems when someone has a diff or tcase fail). That said, I don't know the difference in tread, but I worked with a guy that had to have an axle rebuilt, and the dealer said it was due to him having only 1 tire replaced.

5w-30 should work year round. Synthetic or regular.

Re: The Blue project!

How many of you guys like the results of this seafoam? I'm going to do an oil change soon and was thinking of doing a treatment of this seafoam stuff.

Re: The Blue project!

I run a can through my gas tank around each time I do an oil change. This probably has the most benefit. I also occasionally run about half a can though the oil about 200-400 miles prior to an oil change, but with a good oil this really shouldn't be necessary, not planning on doing it this coming oil change. I have also ran it through the vacuum line, and it seemed to clear out the system but not sure if I really noticed an improvement, or if it was just hopeful thinking. I've also heard this could be bad for O2 sensors.

Re: The Blue project!

I ran a can through the gas tank, and they now make it in a spray for use through the throttle body, which I also did. I haven't, and probably won't, dump anything in the crankcase.

The spray though the throttle body created the fabled "white smoke". I felt like it idled a little smoother. Might just be wishful thinking too, but too many people (including mechanics) swear by this stuff, and for the price and peace of mind, I think it's worth it.
