***trans slip/99 wj-help??***

OK Gang..I have been thru some ringers but I keep putting the hammer down and she keeps getting from A to B. I did get that ARC pcm(bad 1 first but they overnited another the next day) so I am OK w/ it. I have been having issues with the trans since then tho & still an iffy idle but it doesn't shut off. Again, I replaced the PCM, fuel pump, IAC, TPS, map, and cranksensor. 2 new injectors..but it runs fine on the HWY for the most part. HOWEVER, I am very concerned about this transmission. Once it hits 2nd gear, it shifts fine to 2nd gear, but it slips a tad then catches and shifts fine into 3rd and 4th gear. There is no slip in 2nd if I shift it manually(which I do 95% of the time for the last month++) Secondly, when I'm in overdrive on the interstate, it struggles to find itself(or slips, whatever u want to call it) between 1700-1900 rpms. It's ok at 1900-2100rpms at about 75 mph. It bounces back & forth if I go below 1900rpms. It doesn't downshift though..Basically it drives fine at 55mph&75mph..but it does not like traffic on the hwy or slight hills..It downshifts fine and climbs strong on steep grade or deliberate passing..I swapped the filter & discovered the tranny is out of a 98. Again this is a 99 WJ 4.0L..I'm hoping not to pull the trans if I don't have to..Ideas? Thanks in advance Gang..JEEP ON!

I think the 42re is different between the 98 to 99 years although they bolt right up

How is the transmission fluid level and how does the fluid look like (color and smell)? Was the fluid changed lately? I will have to check the manual, but maybe it needs the bands to be adjusted. Will have to check if the same band is used for 2nd gear as for overdrive. Will have a look tonight, when iŽm at home.

98 & 99Zj/Wj 4.0 share the same transmission filters. I'd agree with Frango. Check color and smell first. Did you replace your IAC & TPS with mopar or chain store? I had bought an iac & tps from a chain store. It worked but out on the highway it felt like it was "slipping". The rpms would go up then back down but it wasn't really shifting. I returned them both and bought new ones from moparoverstock. Everything's been fine ever since. Also, when you replaced the sensors, did you pull your tb and give it a good cleaning?
