Re: Transmission troubles

Thats what I paid for mine. 99-03 "black plug" solenoids are the ones prone to fail, 04 and up "white plug" models (needs new TRS plate if installing in 99-03 trans) are the good ones. TRS plate was included with my solenoid.

Re: Transmission troubles

My 04 still had the black connector solenoid pack. The black connector solenoid is not made anymore and if you find one its probably a refurbished one. The white connector solenoid seems to be better. I have opened up both and the biggest difference between the two are the solenoids.
If you tell electricaladvantage the year of your jeep, they will sell the TRS plate together.

Re: Transmission troubles

The new solenoid pack fixes the problem of the trans going in to limp mode, it won't make a difference on the no TC lock up issue. Wouldn't hurt to change it before/during install of a used trans. Its up to you, to change it all you have to do is drop the pan and valve body, the block sits right on top of the valve body. Worst part about changing it is dropping the pan.

Re: Transmission troubles

Aamco is where I had mine looked at, they suggested rebuild as well. If you can get them or some other reputable shop to do the converter and solenoid you should be good. My solenoid went bad 18 months before the converter, but that could have been what started its downfall. As long as their isn't a bunch of other clutch material in the pan I'd say replace solenoid and converter and you will have a solid transmission again. That's what worked for me anyway.

If you find a shop with a good scanner, then you can see the line pressure and know if the pump is working ok or not. But i have opened up my pump before and the only thing what could go wrong there is a sticking main pressure regulator valve. I also agree with Aaron and would first check for debris in the pan and when not to much sludge in there, i would change the solenoid pack and torque converter.
