Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

Getting the ignition fixed car had me stranded, luckily close to home, had to call AA, they hot wired my WJ and got,it going, took it in for repair yesterday, seems the ignition actuator pin failing is a common problem in '99-2001 WJs apparently.

BTW, I saw at least 5 other WJs in the guys workshop who fixes these around here, anyway he's quite the SUV specialist, his done a service before on my WJ, he works on all kinds, from the latest Landy Discoveries to old XJ Cherokee Sports so I know my baby is in good hands.

Anything possible to lessen the dead spot in the WJ steering, or is that just a sign of age and wear and tear?

Check for play on the steering rod ends. Let someone move the steering wheel left right quickly and look/feel each rod end. When there is no play on there, its probably wear inside the steering gearbox. My jeep has this same problem, but not so happy to spend another big $$$$ for a new gearbox. I think i saw the internal gears for sale separately, have to see if that would be better for me, since shipping cost are more then the actual part.
Also check the track bar bushings for wear when moving the steering wheel, you will see play on there quite easily. There is a bit of movement due to the flexibility of the rubber bushings.

Also, (please correct me if I am wrong) the tie rod ends can add to this "dead" spot as well. Usually when they go bad though it will be accompanied with a slight to moderate vibration.

You´re not wrong, but i mentioned steering rod ends being all the rod ends in the steering system.

Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

Excited for my srt8 wheels to arrive this week. Really gonna set this thing off. Need to schedule a time to get a paint job quote. Paint overall is not too bad, but the hood is messed up so I was thinking of a basic re spray to make things stand out again.

Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

SRT8 wheels I think are the best street wheel option on the WJ, I ran them on mine. Did you go staggard or all 20X9?

Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

Took it to the shop to see what happened to the ac last fall. Hooked it up to the machine and it held vacuum for over an hour. So where the f**k did all my freon go? Have to put $50 of freon with dye in it just to waste finding a leak I guess. I was hoping to find a big ass leak in the condenser because it worked one day and didn't the next. Not going to be that easy I guess damn it

Re: What are you doing to your WJ next?

Anyone know where I can get a build sheet or a spec sheet for a Vin #. Found an '03 Wrangler with 21,800 miles on it. Unfortunately, it is in an auction and I can't look for it for another three weeks was hoping I could get a sheet to check the specs to see if its worth the drive to look at it.

To the WJ this weekend: Pulling the carpet back on the driver & passenger side and drying it out. Then putting some weathertech mats in and doing an oil change.

OH....and buying my membership to here again lol

No its never that easy! It took my 3 weeks to replace my antenna and 4 hours to replace my lift-gate hydraulic arms. lol

Hey, maybe it's so slow, this fill-up will get you though the whole summer? My XJ did that to me...lasted all summer until about Septemberish. It turned out to be the evap core...
