What are you doing to your WJ next?

I thought a thread like this might be fun here...I know I've seen them in other forums (before I discovered the greatest forum of them all).

Here, I'll start...on my short list are:

New upper and lower radiator hoses and stainless clamps. Jeep's got about 85k on it. A new set of hoses is probably not a bad idea considering summer is almost here and the cost to do this is like $20.

Hopefully getting some parts hydro-graphic'd

Installing a bored TB (70mm)

Swapping out billet grille inserts for black mesh

A friend in Columbus picked up a 242HD TC, rear drive shaft, and shifter bezel for me. :-D

While applying my parking brake yesterday, a bang was heard from under the center console and the parking brake lever was free to move without any resistance. Removing the center console today reveiled that the cable end broke loose from the cable. I will see if a new inner cable can be made here locally.

Feels good, doesn't it?

Been busy messing with brakes....WJ got a new driver's rear caliper, a new rear shielded brake line (from manifold on rear axle to soft line at caliper) and two new Goodridge braided stainless rear brake hoses. Next up will be the fronts....eventually. I also ordered a new PML aluminum transmission pan and a fumitomo drain valve to go with it for my next trans service.

You will love it. Which style did you end up with? Did you get the natural, powder coated, CF, or AMBER version? :slapfight:

IIRC this one holds 2 qts more...

Installed yesterday a new front parking brake cable. I could get locally a Dorman cable, which fitted very well. Whats next what is going to break:confused::rolleyes:

Got that PML 11078 trans pan in today. 3 coats of Rustoleum went on yesterday. I used a Fel-Pro gasket (TOS18733) this time. Getting things lined up perfectly without bumping something and smearing that RTV is just not happening for me. After a hot/cold cycle, no leaks. I'll check again tomorrow after re-checking the fluid level. This is a seriously heavy duty pan, and it's totally worth it to have a drain plug.

Thanks dude! Just got done installing all 4 braided Goodridge brake hoses too. Did an oil change while I was at it. Now THAT is what a real man's recycling bin is supposed to look like:

Hey buddy I don't know about tying off to the spring like that. You'll probably never pull on it but a good pothole could pinch that stuff especially that fragile @ss abs wire. Maybe fab a bracket from the caliper mount or spring perch? Just watching out for ya,Amberman:lol:

#2,690 ·
Wow, I just looked at that picture again...it really does look like I have it attached to the spring! I can assure you, I would do no such thing. It's just zipped to the ABS wire. I can fit my fist between the spring and the cable/hose. Good lookin' out though brother!

Hey Tony I'm getting ready to put shocks on the TJ and I hear all kind of horror stories about the rear upper mounts. Any tips, prayers or explosives would be greatly appreciated. Also if you're still kicking around a new head unit check out my expy build. I put in a Kenwood DNN991 and integrated it with an Idatalink Maestro. Best sounding head unit I've ever heard and I even have full time internet! Dave's multiple beer break Expy build - Ford Expedition Forum That's right up your alley bro.

Whoa! Totally missed this post! I need to look into this. I've got a double din moulding piece for the dash, but that's about as far as I ever got with it. I keep thinking about "the next Jeep", but just can't justify it right now. I'll be checking that link out tonight.

So I never had any issues with upper shock mounts on any of my Jeeps. I ran Ranchos, DoetschTech, and at least one other brand while I owned it. Lots of shocks...never one issue with removal or installation, or any bracket problems. The typical front shock spin when trying to remove the top nut, but nothing a really tight set of vice grips couldn't take care of.

Great job on that Expy by the way. It's really staring to come along. I dig the grille. Looking forward to seeing it with the lift on once you're done. Between now and then, I'll be reading up on that Idatalink jobby you've got going on there. Looks like a real 1 stop shop for everything you could possibly need.

Another front brake job is what I'm doing next...probably today or tomorrow. New EBC rotors and trying the Hawk performance pads. Of course I painted the backing plate on the new pads with some VHT silver to contrast my gloss black calipers. Clearly worth at least 5HP with them painted.

2 caliper seize episodes in the last year and a half have warped my junk. When is someone going to come out with a warp-free rotor that guys like us can afford? After that, I think I'm replacing the long solid brake line from the master, all the way to the center of the rear axle. It's the only one that looks crusty.

...and it's DONE

Nope, working 6 and 7 day weeks right now so barely enough time to cut grass. Lots of parts piling up here. Jeep needs shocks, wheels painted and 2 front fenders,SHO needs inner tie rod ends and a wheel bearing and the Expy needs the lift plus brakes and rotors put on.I need an assistant or at least a beer assistant like the monkey guy has to make it all better.

#2,702 ·
You got your work cut out for you buddy! 2 Fords and a Jeep will do that to ya. You need at least 2 beer assistants.

Well, looks like next up for me is going to be a timing chain cover set. Mine is weeping. Luckily, I've got a good indy shop close to work that will be doing it because I've got zero time for this right now. I had this big, master plan laid out, but it's starting to get a little too weepy, and I've never done one before. While they are doing it, I'm going to have a new water pump and stat thrown on as preventative maintenance. I'll have all new coolant, so I really don't want to drain it again if the pump decides to go. It's the original with 120k on it. Kinda surprised it hasn't failed yet. This would be one of the very rare times it's going to the shop. After it's all done, I'm sure I'll have to do a good under-the-hood detailing and then be forced to take pictures and post them on here...

#2,704 ·
So I kept the old water pump because I wanted to post a pic on here. I've seen a lot of really nasty ones on the web...where they were eaten up from the inside out. Probably due to lack of fluid service, and/or use of incorrect fluids. Here is what mine looked like after 120k. All I did was rinse it off with the hose.

#2,705 ·
Oh yeah, I also painted the undercarriage today, did a quick under-hood detail and shampooed the 11 year old mats.

Nice looking wheels there Dave! And beautiful paint as always Tony!

The old WJ got a new set of tires yesterday, I had a framing nail right on the edge of the tread, going in at pretty bad angle. I'm kinda glad to get rid of the old Falkens, these new Cooper Discoverer ATP's ride a lot nicer!

As clean as it will probably ever be.........unless I can talk Tony into doing it. Honestly it doesn't like being all shiny.

Holy back from the dead! Hows it going? I put a set of at3's on the expy in feb. So far so good I guess. No real miles on em yet but heading to Fla next month so they'll get a workout then. Not really a Cooper fan but the price was right for 18's.

Boring but necessary oil change - 6 qt of Valvoline Maxlife 10w30 and Wix 51515 filter

Currently showing 127k miles and I was 1500 miles over on the oil change. Oops...
