I thought a thread like this might be fun here...I know I've seen them in other forums (before I discovered the greatest forum of them all).
Here, I'll start...on my short list are:
New upper and lower radiator hoses and stainless clamps. Jeep's got about 85k on it. A new set of hoses is probably not a bad idea considering summer is almost here and the cost to do this is like $20.
Changed the oil (1500 miles over due to the trip back east for Thanksgiving) and priced tires. Looking to go with the same Discoverer AT3 that are on it.
Not bad but the entire bumper is scuffed up with the passenger side in the pic taking the brunt. Ripped off the plate which is now crookedly screwed to the bumper cover. The grill is also broken and a new one has been found.
Why yes, the WJ has the factory installed engine block heater in it. It seems to have dropped out from the summer hiding place.
Didn't do much to my WJ today...because I don't have it anymore.
I did, however, continue the CF theme on the JK. Spare tire delete got carbonified, and I have a CF grill sitting in the garagemahal awaiting some mesh to arrive so I can install it. It's not anything sexy like hatch struts, but it's better than nothin. Happy new year to all my WJ buds!
Well, petrol pump went bust, it gave me fair warnings, and a new is in the mail. But, just to be sure to adhere to the law of Murphy, the car had been topped up the night before, and it all had to be evacuated.
You know you need your Jeep when it's in a garage for repairs.
After some driving this weekend the exhaust sound changed to something louder and after starting, a loud ticking, as if a lifter is not working properly. A short examination reveiled that on the drivers side header, the upper aft bolt for the head shield is pulled out of the header and a round hole is visible, causing the noise. Can this bolt be replaced?
I will take a picture tomorrow when time allows. But there is no problems with the bolst who hold the header in place, it is a bolt (stud?) which holds the heat shield in place.
I don't know why I thought it was the same stud that serves both functions. I might be thinking of a previous Jeep, but I thought there was a stud and nut that held the header to the block, and another nut on top of that holding the heat shield in place....
I know your situation is a little different due to location...but I got mine from the dealer when I replaced them. I paid a little more, but I was afraid with any aftermarket for something that takes this much of a beating. I will check for the part number when I get home...I'm pretty sure I have it on my home PC.
Ok, just got the heatshield off and the two aft studs are broken. The header itself doesn´t seem to be warped, but will have a better look at it when its of.
I was reading somewhere that the forward studs and aft studs have different lenghts, anyone who can confirm this?
Probably best to change all the studs and bolts and the gasket.
If I remember correctly, the BOLTS are all one size and the STUDS are all one size...but, the studs and bolts are different lengths from one another. Apparently the bolt heads snapping isn't all that uncommon on these. Repeated heat cycles over the years weakens the head where it attaches to the threaded part. When it happened to me, my head wasn't warped either. The broken studs got extracted, and all the hardware on the one side was replaced, along with a new gasket. For the money, you might as well. It's no fun, but if you only do the ones that broke, chances are you'll be back under there in a few months when the other ones let loose. They are much easier to remove when the head is still attached!
So my exhaust header bolts and gasket came in today. Bought the original Mopar bolts via Morris 4x4. There are 3 different types of bolts used on each header: 4 x P/N 6507746AA (simple bolt with hex head, left on the picture), 2 x P/N 6508219AA (same bolt as before, it only has a stud on its head, to fasten the heat shield, used on the two upper and lower front positions, middle in the picture) and 2 x P/N 6508220AA (same bolt, but it has an extension on the bolt head and a stud on top. These are for the upper and lower aft positions and create more distance for the heat shield. These are the bolts which normally break, right on the picture).
Well, was sick and tired of the old wooden effect plastic awfulness on the Jeep... so thought I'd give wrapping a go, not perfect but anything is better than it was... forgot to take a couple of pictures of the dashboard before I started so have just got a couple of net to show the awful wood effect before. I think it looks nice and subtle... for me ;-)
ROFL, yeah... I'll wrap my house to go with it. Nahhh, will keep it tasteful (ish) and just stick to what I've done, don't mind the rest of the interior tbh, just that dreadful wood was and has been doing my head in for 3 years now!!!
So interior LED lighting all green (looks amazing at night) and green interior driving ambient light done inside... outside kind of done... Mmmmm, what to do next lol
Hey that was "high end" back in the day. I ended up even wrapping the orange buttons on the seatbelt releases. I had all kinds of stuff wrapped once I got going.
