What are you doing to your WJ next?

I thought a thread like this might be fun here...I know I've seen them in other forums (before I discovered the greatest forum of them all).

Here, I'll start...on my short list are:

New upper and lower radiator hoses and stainless clamps. Jeep's got about 85k on it. A new set of hoses is probably not a bad idea considering summer is almost here and the cost to do this is like $20.

Hopefully getting some parts hydro-graphic'd

Installing a bored TB (70mm)

Swapping out billet grille inserts for black mesh

I had a set of long trails on before my ATs, they were nice until the tread started getting thin, the 4-5/32's range. But the ATs could do in 2wd what those could only maybe get in 4wd, the ATs were unstoppable in 4wd.

ABOUT TIME! All my exhaust parts finally shipped! :joe:

Might cost me a night on the couch but I will have to force some time in the schedule to get it installed.

Looking forward to that wipe new review....

Yup. I'll be posting pics and before/afters once I get it. Nothing has arrived yet but should be here pretty soon. I probably won't be able to get to doing it till next week as finals week starts on Tuesday and I'll be studying (or playing Halo lol) this weekend.

Edit: To you guys running CCFL halos, one of my halo's work intermittently. Sometimes it lights up, sometimes it doesn't. Any ideas? It's in the FL headlight, right side.

Next thing I plan on doing to the WJ?? Hmmmm.. I have fallen in love with the eagle eye led tail lights. So I am sure when the holidays roll around I will be spending money on those. Working on a lift/level idea so i can fit my 245's without rubbing. But dont want to do a full 2.5 lift. Maybe a 2"bb in the front and a 1"bb in the rear. I drive 160 miles a day so I am not looking to jack it up and wheel it until I close this project and dont have to drive so far to work. Also, trying to figure out if I want to do the addco sway bars or sct programmer for my next "big" buy.

#835 ·
Good point about the tune, but I am also looking at it for a little MPG help.Since I drive a lot everyday every little bit helps. Does the rear sway bar make a big difference on its own? I'd be willing to buy the rear (~$130), but the front is the one I am having trouble biting the bullet on (~$250). I have the 17's on my limited. So I think the backpacking is making it a little funky. I definitely rub.... Didn't think I would, but I do. I don't want to trim this vehicle. So I am going to go with a lift/level set up. I had an old explorer I trimmed often, so I am trying to do the Jeep right.

#837 ·
The rear sway bar definitely makes a big difference on its own, the rear bar is the biggest size change. The front ties it all together, but the rear is good on its own. I didn't see a big increase in mileage withe my Superchips tuner, but the performance tune increases power without reducing mileage any.

Plugged in the engine block heater for the first time ever!

Today, the snow mod:

Saturday, the exhaust finally went in! I cut off the old tail pipe, muffler, and 3rd cat. Then added about 24" of straight pipe, a magnaflow 12586 stainless muffler, and walker 55044 tail pipe with polished stainless tip. The install went well, although the tail pipe was crap. The hanger bracket was turned 90 degrees from the stock one, so it had to be bent back to get it on. Then, it had to be welded to the muffler, it was a little too small compared to the muffler outlet so a clamp wouldn't tighten enough.

The sound on this is awesome! Just what I was looking for, a nice little rumble at idle, good sound when I put my foot in it, and no drone cruising down the highway. I've only put 50 miles on it so far but I'm loving the sound. Enjoy the pics and sound!

The muffler:

Rusted out crap:

Bending the bracket:

The "new cat" :D :

Pardon the dirty Jeep, but it is winter here after all . Had some fun with the Jeep at the lake parking lot today, it whips around nicely in 6"+ of fresh snow. As for my newish Falken Rocky Mountain ATS tires, they are no BFG All Terrains, but they do pretty well in the snow. They clean out well and hook up nicely in the snow. Jeep on!

Give that muffler 1000 miles and some heat cycles and it will sound even better. When it passes me on the road I know it was my old truck due to the sound. The Magnaflow I installed on the 4.7 powered 2006 Ram QC 4x4 sounded best after a 3000 mile trip with the last 1700 pulling a car on a trailer and the trans in tow/haul or OD off on the interstate. That trip proved the 4.7 has what it takes.

How cold is it getting in your area at night Travis? I assume when you start the car in the morning heat out the vents is warm enough to demist the interior quickly?

Love the snow mod Aaron, exhaust sounds good too - nice work! I loved finding deserted car parks a few years back and having some fun drifting the beast in the snow, safe in the knowledge that it'd never get stuck!

It it -13c last night and we had 40 to 50 KPH winds. I did not crawl in the WJ this morning but I did notice there was no frost on any of the windows.

Marty, I should have talked to you about the fender mounted indicators on your WJ before it went to the breaker. I love the looks and the added visibility that they add.

Brrr, -13! It is supposed to get down to -4 tonight (<5mph winds though) and my car is already beginning to frost up. Thankfully this car doesn't frost up on the inside like the Jeep did, which saves a bit of time!

They were standard here so you could easily find a pair on eBay for example. Startech made clear ones which looked even better (obviously!) but they discontinued them when I asked which was 2 or 3 years ago now... :(

Time to check out the UK ebay and hope a seller will ship to the states.

So when you open up a door, there is a some sort of rubber/epoxy/material that is all around the door. Looks like a moisture barrier almost. I've torn mine apart when I was working in the door. Should I replace it? What is the use of it? What should I replace it with? Thanks.

#847 · (Edited)
Well, I was driving down the highway last night and had a window regulator go "POP" on me :( I Decided to go ahead and replace all 4 of the plastic cable blocks with aluminium ones. I'm hoping I'll never have to deal with them again!

EDIT: I had some time at lunch to dig into the door and discovered that the cables were all mangled up  Fortunately, I was able to use a heat gun (torch would have been better) and some pliers to straighten the cable back to an acceptable form.

Got my wipe new just waitin for a couple sunny days to do it.

Finally decided on my wheels for when I buy new tires and am starting to look at shocks. My back end is getting saggy lol

While you're sitting on the computer or watching TV, clench, and release, clench and release....after a few months you'll start to notice an improvement.

Next up for me was to use up that last piece of Di-Noc I had lying around...MOAR CARBON FIBER!!!!!!!!

That was the last big piece I had left...dammit.

Next up is a new mount for my new pistol of choice....

#854 ·
Thanks dude...amazing what a good heat gun, and both thumbs can do..hehehhe. Hopefully it holds. I've heard some conflicting stories on how this stuff holds on concave details like that. Next up might be the black plastic part that goes under the rubber tray in front of the shifter, and I've been eye-balling the bezel for the seat memory buttons on the driver's door. I should have enough left to do those 2 things.

#856 ·
Online...carbon fiber gear.com...but I have not bought in a long time. I bought one big roll

#857 ·
I managed to squeeze in that bezel today...I didn't realize until I started messing with it that it actually comes out. 2 small torx screws hold it in from the back.

Picked up the trailer wiring harness. I hope to install it Friday.

What shocks are you guys running? I know you all love Bilsteins but I was looking it up and there were a couple different types. I'm looking for something that's going to be a little stiffer. Also, while the new shocks raise the Jeep a bit?

A local shop is having a Buy 2 Get 2 shocks for free for the next week. I called and they said Bilsteins were included. I'd like to move on this before it disappears.

#860 ·
Bilstein... end of story.
