whining noise

I have 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4. When in drive get to bout 30mph starts making a whining noise. Dont stop til you stop then get up to 30 it starts again. Take it from drive to 2nd it stops whining. Turn overdrive off it starts whining. Cut overdrive back on or put back in drive it picks right back up whining.

Re: whining noise

Welcome to the garage.
Sounds as a transmission issue. Which engine/transmission?
Did you already check the transmission fluid level and the fluid for burning smell?

Re: whining noise

As far as i know the 4.0 only comes with the 42RE transmission.
I would expect a bearing or so inside the transmission which is getting bad. Maybe good to pull the transmission pan and check for debris.
