Why I hate cv joints

A torn boot on the wife's 01' WJ required nearly two hrs to remove all the crap necessary to slide out the cv joint and axle. Repair kit at the local auto shop cost damn near as much as a new joint and shaft, so I paid $60 for a new setup. Had to beat the crap out of the rotor to knock it off, so I'll be replacing that too. Might as well replace the pads while I have the caliper off. And of course you got to do the other front rotor and pads as well.

So because of a torn piece of rubber, I am out about $200 and at least 4hrs of my weekend. Give me the good old fashion spicer u-joints for $10 and I'd be a much happier guy. Oh and rain sucks too when you haven't got a garage wide enough to slide the right side shaft out of the axle.

Had another short break in the rain and managed to clean things up, get the new cv joint and shaft installed, replace the hub bearing and get the bolts hand tight before the next shower. Still a lot remaining to get done but I'll get it back together today even if I am out there with a flood light in the dark!

Managed to get the passenger side back together in between the downpours today. Replacing the driver's side rotor and pads will have to wait a day or two. Nothing real hard about replacing a cv joint and axle shaft. Air tools sure do make it easier though.
