i honestly got teary eyed over that. why in the hell would somebody decide to blow up an engine for no reason? it clearly ran. the WJ wasnt in bad shape. why not get some of the rusty ass honda's and toyotas off the road?

That a question to ask your commander and chief. I saw plenty of good Mustangs bite the dust in an effort to improve mileage.

Re: Why i own a jeep!!!!

Unless its a modded out Foxbody mustang, i cant see where the mileage is that horrible. I have several friends with Mustangs and they not once complain about the fuel it uses. I think the cash for clunkers idea was a bit of a joke, trying to get people to buy into newer vehicles. I understand the point, but judging by the EPA estimates on fueleconomy.gov, the newer vehicles only get 4 more mpg that some of the ones traded in

Re: Why i own a jeep!!!!

What a waste of a perfectly good running vehicle (apparently). What a joke, but I guess that's our government for you. That jeep would have been worth much more than the cash for clunkers value at that time...

That's ridiculous, that jeep obviously had a strong running engine, pointless to destroy a nice car

Re: Why i own a jeep!!!!

what pisses me off, is i could have used that motor! instead of paying $700 in mill work and $525 for rebuild kit

For me an engine is a master piece of enginerical art. What a shame to mistread it like that. Its like throwing rocks to a Rembrand or Van Gogh.

Never did like or agreed with the Cash for Clunker program. That was a waste of a good engine.....

I know what you're saying, but the program was based on EPA estimates. Since the Fox body Mustangs met the criteria, there were a lot of them turned in and ruined. The whole program was a joke and a huge waste of taxpayer money ($24k per vehicle)

Im sure they had good intentions. But the EPA was, from my understanding, set out to give the government (i do not remember which branch or part) ideas on how to make things more environmentally friendly, such as vehicles, recycling, etc. Nowadays, the EPA has gotten way too large and has too much power. There seems to be no checks and balances here like we learned about in school. I personally know somebody who traded in a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ that had once had an engine heat problem. never overheated badly, but i had replaced the head gasket and taken care of the problem for her. she traded it in for the Cash for Clunkers program and got a Kia instead. we all know what Kia means in Korean... JUNK. I was deeply upset knowing that Jeep would be destroyed.
