Re: WJ Grand Cherokee Reliability - Help Us Provide Better Info

We've updated our reliability stats for the Grand Cherokee to include owner experiences through September 30, 2014.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2004 Grand Cherokee: 80, moderate
2002 Grand Cherokee: 135, high, very small sample size
2000 Grand Cherokee: 67, low, small sample size

Additional participants always helpful (especially if you see "small sample size" next to the year, or no stat at all).

To view the repairs behind these numbers, check the stats for other cars, and sign up to help improve this information (next update in February):

Re: WJ Grand Cherokee Reliability - Help Us Provide Better Info

192,600 on 4.7 limited WJ.

I'v broken some things through years of daily driving. Beaches, ocean water, towing, heavy towing, river crossing, cross country trips from alaska to florida and all through the NW. Radiator went around 150k, alt at 128k, 1 Throttle position sensor, 1 wheel sensor, 1 rear caliper locked, front hubs, wheel seals (twice now, 1 failing in a wild show)

Owned since 2004 and thats all thats gone wrong without my mettling.

Only issue I can't seem to fix is some DW that started around 184k. I'v replaced EVERYTHING, was good for about 2k then it came back. Basically I can't drive it on the highways

Re: WJ Grand Cherokee Reliability - Help Us Provide Better Info

So, how have these cars been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the Grand Cherokee now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

2004 Grand Cherokee: 89, moderate
2002 Grand Cherokee: 143, high, very small sample size
2000 Grand Cherokee: 65, low, very small sample size

We especially need more participants for model years with small sample sizes. Next updates in August and November.

Re: WJ Grand Cherokee Reliability - Help Us Provide Better Info

Our reliability stats for the Grand Cherokee now cover the year ending June 30, 2015.

Repair trips per 100 cars:

2004 Grand Cherokee: 99, moderate
2002 Grand Cherokee: 125, high, very small sample size
2001 Grand Cherokee: 90, moderate, very small sample size

If a model year isn't listed, or its sample size is small, then we especially need more owners involved.

Re: WJ Grand Cherokee Reliability - Help Us Provide Better Info

Okay ill chime in on this..

I have a 2000 WJ with 247,211 miles on it to date. Factory engine and transmission. No rebuilds, or replacements. Bought it from the original owners, guy was meticulous and serviced it every 3k, like clock work.

Small things here and there have been replaced. Spark Plugs, Fan Clutch, Radiator, Thermosat, new valve cover gaskets. The transfer case is being rebuilt next week. The sealant around it is finally falling apart and starting to leak. Not to mention the front bearing cover has been gone for who knows how long. To this day, apart from the T-Case leak, no other component drips.

Re: WJ Grand Cherokee Reliability - Help Us Provide Better Info

We've updated our reliability stats for the Grand Cherokee to include owner experiences through the end of 2015, about eight months ahead of other sources. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year--lower is better:

2004 Grand Cherokee: 144, high, small sample size
2002 Grand Cherokee: 37, low, very small sample size
2001 Grand Cherokee: 68, low, very small sample size

We'll have further updates in May and in August. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

Re: WJ Grand Cherokee Reliability - Help Us Provide Better Info

My g.c. Laredo seems bad as , 198000. All the regular problem windows reg. Fan relay ,small trany problem . Radio and speakers need help . But it has been solid. Hate to say , karma and all. But I've owned it for 7 or 8 years , been very solid. Bought it used and I must say it does not owe me anything . But I do believe in upkeep . Even the small things. Makes the car happy .
